Vapex (vapor extraction) is a relatively new process for the recovery of heavy oil and bitumen that involves the injection of a vaporized solvent to reduce the viscosity of the oil. The diluted oil is then allowed to drain into a production well under the influence of gravity. It is a potentially economic process that can be applied to reservoirs that are not suitable for thermal recovery method. In addition, the process has the potential to sequester greenhouse gases, and is capable of in situ upgrading of heavy oil. 3, record 3, English, - vapour%20extraction
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The VAPEX process uses saturated hydrocarbon solvent vapour(ethane, propane or butane) in conjunction with horizontal wells to mobilize and recover viscous oils and bitumens from hydrocarbon deposits in which the bottom water zone(aquifer) is used to deliver the solvent vapour to the base of the reservoir. The process involves injecting a hydrocarbon solvent into the reservoir along with a displacement gas to mobilize the hydrocarbons in the reservoir and move them toward the production well. 8, record 3, English, - vapour%20extraction

Toe To Heel Water Flooding : An Effective Short Distance Oil Displacement Process for Light Heavy Oil Reservoirs.... Wascana Energy Inc. and Alberta Research Council invite you to attend an information session to describe the Toe-To-Heel Waterflooding(TTHW) process.... Background With the advent of horizontal wells in Improved Oil Recovery of heavy oils, a change is taking place in the approach to improved recovery of oil. Currently, there is a move from displacing oil in a flood pattern from injector to producers over long distances(of the order of hundreds of meters) to short-distance oil displacement(SDOD) processes(typically over a few meters). Due to the high viscosity of heavy oil, the displacement to producers located long distance away tends to make waterflooding inappropriate. Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage, Vapor Extraction and Toe-To-Heel Displacement Processes(TTHDP) belong to the SDOD processes. TTHDP can be applied as a non-thermal recovery technology, such as Toe-To-Heel Waterflooding or as a thermal technology such as Toe-To-Heel Steamflooding and Toe-To-Heel Air Injection. More than 17 laboratory tests of Toe-To-Heel Waterflooding(TTHW) showed that this process will provide good results for lighter heavy oil reservoirs(with viscosity less than 1200 mPas). Hele Shaw model tests indicated ultimate recovery factors substantially higher for the TTHW, when compared to conventional waterflooding using vertical wells. 2, record 8, English, - toe%2Dto%2Dheel%20combustion

The horizontal belt washer... resembles the fourdrinier section of a paper machine. The pulp suspension is distributed from a headbox onto a traveling filter belt(e. g., plastic screen or steel band), and formed into a mat. Wash liquor is applied to the top side of the mat while displaced filtrate is removed from the underside of the belt by suction boxes. The washer is operated in a countercurrent mode, with the filtrate from one section being returned as wash liquor to the previous section, and ultimately as dilution for the headbox furnish. In common with the vacuum washer, displacement is the principal washing mechanism, but no mixing and reforming of the pulp mat is required between stages. A total of five displacement stages are easily accommodated along the belt. 1, record 16, English, - horizontal%20belt%20washer

1, record 16, French, - filtre%20%C3%A0%20bande%20horizontale

Micrometer microscopes... are fitted at opposite ends of the diameter of a graduated circle, either horizontal or vertical....... Looking into the eyepiece, one sees two twin wires.... At the side of the microscope there is a drum, or micrometer head.... By rotating the drum, the wires are moved across the field until they straddle one of the larger divisions on the graduated circle.... The displacement is measured by the drum, and one thus gets a reading. 4, record 17, English, - micrometer%20microscope
