The overturn collapse is a condition that occurs when a building is literally laid over on its side. This can be caused by a column tension failure or a shear wall overturning inadequacy. Most winds travel horizontally, as does most wind shear, but under certain conditions, including thunderstorms and strong frontal systems, wind shear will travel in a vertical direction. Microburst wind shear ... can cause an aircraft to lose lift and crash, especially during takeoff or landing, when the slower speeds and closeness to the ground make altitude correction more difficult. Streaks or wisps of precipitation, such as water or ice particles, that fall from clouds but evaporate before reaching the ground.

Virga is frequently seen trailing from altocumulus and altostratus clouds, but also is discernible below the bases of high-level cumuliform clouds from which precipitation is falling into a dry subcloud layer. It typically exhibits a hooked form in which the streaks descend nearly vertically just under the precipitation source but appear to be almost horizontal at their lower extremities. Such curvature of virga can be produced simply by effects of strong vertical wind shear, but ordinarily it results from the fact that droplet or crystal evaporation decreases the particle terminal fall velocity near the ends of the streaks. Under some conditions, virga are associated with dry microbursts, which are formed as a product of the evaporation.

Mushroom arm cutter. Another special type of arm was the mushroom arm... This consisted of a standard jib with a vertical tree or turrett mounted near its end. The turret was fitted with teeth and rotated about its axis. It was driven by the cutting chain on the main jib. The mushroom device was designed to fit on to any standard-type chain coal-cutter and, like the curved jib, it allowed the operator to make a shear cut at the back of the web at the same time as the horizontal cut was being made. Other variations on this theme included units with twin mushroom jibs and units with both a curved arm and a mushroom arm on the same machine.

Le champignon, inspiré des vielles haveuses à barre, est un petit tambour court portant des couteaux disposés en hélice. Il est fixé verticalement sur l'axe de l'étoile du retour, qui, entraînée par la chaîne, entraîne à son tour le champignon. Généralement, celui-ci est au-dessus du bras. Il travaille ainsi mieux car les fines qu'il produit s'évacuent facilement. Il existe cependant les haveuses à champignon tourné vers le bas (...) et aussi des haveuses à double bras dont l'un ou les deux à la fois portent un champignon.
