Overhand stoping is used with cut-and-fill, with both dry rock and hydraulic sand as backfill material. Overhand means that the ore is drilled from below by blasting a slice 3.0 m to 4.0 m thick. This allows the complete stope area to be drilled and the blasting of the full stope without interruptions. The "upper" holes are drilled with simple wagon drills. 5, record 1, English, - overhand%20stoping
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
In a restricted way overhand stoping can be applied to open or waste-filled stopes that are excavated in a series of horizontal slices either sequentially or simultaneously from the bottom of a block to its top. 4, record 1, English, - overhand%20stoping

A method of stoping in which the ore is extracted by excavating a series of horizontal(sometimes inclined) timbered slices alongside each other, beginning at the top of the ore body and working progressively downward; the slices are caved by blasting out the timbers, bringing the capping or overburden down upon the bottom of the slices which have been previously covered with a floor or mat of timber to separate the caved material from the solid ore beneath.... As the slices are mined out and caved this mat follows the mining downward, filling the space occupied previously by the ore. 5, record 3, English, - top%20slicing

1, record 3, French, - m%C3%A9thode%20de%20la%20tranche%20horizontale%20unidescendante

[In] base metal mines(...) a large proportion of the ore reserves is found in pillars left between previously mined stopes. These pillars are usually mined using the undercut-and-fill method which is especially suited to unstable ground conditions. Starting at the top of the mining zone the ore is removed in horizontal slices and replaced by backfill to sustain the walls of the adjacent stopes. A wooden mat braced by posts is used to support the backfill so that the ore underneath can be removed.(...) In one mine, the conventional undercut-and-fill technique was modified by suspending the wooden mat on rock bolts anchored to the crown pillar, rather than supporting it on posts. 2, record 6, English, - undercut%20and%20fill%20mining
