A katabatic wind, it is formed at night by the radiational cooling along mountainsides.

Wheelabrator structural steel shot blast cleaning systems have been designed to clean different structural shapes for before or after fabrication. One expedient method for determining the winds aloft entails the launching and tracking of a pilot balloon, also known as a pibal. The name for these balloons that do not carry instruments apparently came from their use during the 19th century when they were launched prior to manned balloon ascents to help guide or "pilot" the manned balloons. The brightly colored helium filled balloon rises at a known ascent rate. However, the balloon is carried horizontally with the wind. Since the assumption is made that the balloon serves as a tracer of the wind, the horizontal motion of the balloon over measured time intervals can be used to determine the wind speed. An observer visually tracks the motion of the balloon with an instrument called a theodolite and records the elevation and azimuth angles at timed intervals. The sequence of observed elevation and azimuth information are plotted on a plotting board to obtain the balloon motion. The wind speed and direction at each selected level are determined. Wind observations may be limited by low cloud ceilings that obscure the balloon.

The air striking the Earth flows out from the centre(called an "outflow") at speeds which depend on the downflow speed and striking angle. "wheelaborator" : A machine used for cleaning castings. The latter are tumbled about in a cabinet on a horizontal belt and at the same time are subjected to bombardment by a stream of metal shot. This latter is maintained by feeding the shot on to the blades of an impeller. The shot are then projected centrifugally at high speed on to the castings. This method is more economical and admits of better control of the abrasive than is possible using air jets. The moving belt must, of course, be well covered with parts to be cleaned, and the impeller blades should preferably be of some hard metal such as high-silicon iron.

Domestic burners usually are confined to the use of oils ranging in grade from No. 1 to No. 4 and employ either one of two methods to prepare the fuel oil for combustion. These are atomization(spraying) and vaporisation(heating). Atomization or spraying is divided into three types, namely, high-pressure atomization, low-pressure atomization, and centrifugal atomization.... The third way in which oil is atomized is by use of centrifugal force. The oil is fed to a rapidly rotating cup(3, 450 rpm or faster). It then spreads throughout this cup in a fine film and flies of the outer edge at a high rate of speed in a very finely divided state. Burners that make use of such centrifugal force are of two types from the standpoint of their design : the horizontal rotary type and the vertical rotary type. High-speed motors are required by burners that use this type of atomization exclusively. With centrifugal atomizing burners there is no contact between oil and air until both have left the burner and entered the combustion chamber.
