OBS

This offers advantages in strength for horizontal and longitudinal loads caused by the sudden braking of vehicles.

OBS

French

Domaine(s)

DEF

Subject field(s)

CONT

The crib annex obtains its name because it is built using the same cribbing principles as the elevator. It is usually partitioned into storage bins 2. 7 metres by 2. 7 metres or 3. 7 metres by 3. 7 metres depending upon the amount of strength required to coincide with the desired height of the annex. These annexes are normally about the same height as the elevator and for this reason, gravity is not used for filling them. Instead, they are filled using a horizontal grain auger or drag conveyor which leads from the elevator distributor spout to the selected annex bin. A screw auger empties the annex by bringing grain from the spout of the desired bin into the elevator's back hopper.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Radar, Radio Guidance and Goniometry
  • Satellite Telecommunications
  • Radio Transmission and Reception
DEF

An antenna designed to transceive signals through a wide range of directions.

OBS

Since an antenna's capabilities are determined by shape and location, it is rarely completely omnidirectional, but broad omnidirectionality is achieved by maintaining equal field strength through the horizontal plane, and radiating in or out through the vertical plane.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Radar, radioguidage et radiogoniométrie
  • Télécommunications par satellite
  • Émission et réception radio
DEF

  • antena no dirigida

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atmospheric Physics
DEF

A measure of strength of the middle-latitude westerlies, expressed as the horizontal pressure difference between 35° and 55° latitude, or as the corresponding geostrophic wind.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Physique de l'atmosphère
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Radar, Radio Guidance and Goniometry
  • Remote Sensing
DEF

Scattering coefficient, the conventional measure of the strength of radar signals reflected by a distributed scatterer [such as the sea surface].

OBS

It is a normalized dimensionless number, comparing the strength observed to that expected from an area of one m². Sigma naught is defined with respect to the nominally horizontal plane, and in general has a significant variation with incident angle, wavelength, polarization, as well as with the properties of the scattering surface itself.

OBS

sigma naught: term officially approved by the RADARSAT-2 Terminology Approval Group (RTAG).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Radar, radioguidage et radiogoniométrie
  • Télédétection
DEF

Internal Bond Strength of Paperboard(Z-Direction and Scott Ply Bond). This test measures the internal fibers’ bond strength by separating the plies from each other. In the ZDT test, the plies are separated in the vertical direction, whereas in the Scott Ply Bond test plies are separated in the horizontal plane. This test uses the TMI ZDT or Scott Ply Bond Instrument.
