Basically[, ] marine fog represented by the [climate] model is warm air advection fog, and it was found that the change in the horizontal temperature advection near the surface mostly determines the changes in marine fog in a warmer climate. Therefore, the changes in marine fog can be almost explained by the large-scale circulation changes. On the other hand, in-cloud LWC(liquid water content) of the fog is consistently increased in a warmer climate for the same horizontal surface temperature advection. 2, record 10, English, - warm%2Dair%20advection%20fog

If the earth were not rotating, the wind would blow exclusively from high to low pressure. Close to the earth, it would be slowed by friction between the atmosphere and the earth's surface but would maintain the same direction with height. However, since the earth undergoes rotation, there is an apparent force acting on horizontal atmospheric motions when examined from a point of reference on the earth's surface. For example, [as] viewed from space(the absolute frame of reference), the [wind] flow [continues] in a straight line. However, as viewed from the earth, the flow has undergone an apparent deflection to the right. 3, record 11, English, - horizontal%20atmospheric%20motion

4, record 12, French, - lev%C3%A9%20de%20profil%20sismique%20vertical

Horizontal hydraulic fracturing is accomplished by drilling vertically to the depth of the shale formation, which is generally found between 0. 6 – 1. 5 km below the surface. When the gas-containing shale is intercepted, the drill bit is maneuvered to travel horizontally through the center of the formation for a distance of up to 1. 6km. Water, biocides, surfactants, sands, and other chemicals are forced into the borehole under extremely high pressure to induce fractures in the shale that allow gas to rise to the surface for collection... 1, record 17, English, - horizontal%20hydraulic%20fracturing

Diffuse solar irradiance is a measure of the rate of incoming solar energy on a horizontal plane at the Earth's surface resulting from scattering of the Sun's beam due to atmospheric constituents. Diffuse solar irradiance is measured by a pyranometer, with its glass dome shaded from the Sun's beam. The shading is accomplished either by an occulting disc or a shading arm attached to a solar tracker. The angle subtended by the shading disc of the diffuse pyranometer should be the same as the field of view of the pyrheliometer. It is important that the dome of the pyranometer is always fully shaded from the Sun's beam to ensure accuracy of measurement, and should be checked for correct alignment on a regular basis. 4, record 31, English, - pyranometer

Combustion Override Split Production Horizontal Well Process(COSH). The main feature of this process, developed by the Alberta Research Council(ARC), is implementation of gravity drainage using a basal horizontal well in a combustion process. The configuration of different wells is critical to the operation of this process. A linear configuration of vertical air injection wells is drilled and completed in the upper portion of the reservoir. A horizontal oil production well is completed in the bottom of the reservoir, aligned and positioned beneath the vertical injection wells. The reservoir is prepared for ignition and combustion is initiated at each of the injection wells. A hot fluid-transmissive chamber is formed around each of the injection wells as combustion proceeds. Combustion gas communication is established with the gas production wells. Heated oil and water, produced by the combustion front in each hot chamber, drains under the effect of gravity and is brought to the surface through the horizontal production well. 3, record 49, English, - combustion%20override%20split%20production%20horizontal%20well%20process

2, record 49, French, - combustion%20in%20situ%20avec%20puits%20de%20production%20horizontal

A description most commonly applied to the work of a generation of American painters... Field painters treat the picture surface as a continuous or extended plane, the whole picture is regarded as a single unit so that figure and ground tend to be given equal value. Colour-Field painters replace tonal contrasts and brushwork by solid areas of colour which extend, in most cases, across the canvas from edge to edge.... Colour is liberated, in this type of painting, from any limitation imposed by internal forms or structure.... most Colour-Field painters work on a monumental horizontal scale and their canvases are intended to be viewed at close quarters... 1, record 50, English, - Colour%20Field%20Painting

It is important to note that convective cells can cause air currents both upward and downward. Upward convective currents carry pollutants many kilometers high into the atmosphere. At these high altitudes advective currents and prevailing winds can transport these pollutants vast distances very quickly. As air spreads from the rising column, it is cooled and falls back down to the earth. This results in a circular rotation of the air. 3, record 59, English, - advective%20current

Drainage of the lake-beds, related to a seasonal phenomenon of dust storms between February and May, has also affected air quality. The midday air temperatures during the dry season generate strong advective currents that elevate salt and clay particles from the former lake bottom. These particles are blown into the city by the prevailing easterly winds. 1, record 59, English, - advective%20current

advection : The horizontal movement of air around the world is known as advection. Advection is the primary mechanism responsible for long range transport of pollutants. Although transport of pollutants via advection is minuscule at the earth's surface, at heights above 1000 m, where friction become negligible, wind velocities of 400 km/hr can carry pollutants at extremely fast rates. 3, record 59, English, - advective%20current

Free products and dissolved petroleum components from the surface of the contaminated aquifer are captured and treated via multi-phase extraction & treatment. Bioslurping induces a horizontal vacuum gradient on the targeted monitor/recovery wells through a slurp tube which is inserted into each well. Product and groundwater are entrained in droplet form in a high velocity air stream and brought to the surface for treatment. Following air/liquid separation the liquid phase is treated by a combination of oil/water separation, air stripping, and liquid phase carbon treatment before being discharged. The off-gas is treated(if necessary) by vapour phase carbon treatment. The advantages of multi-phase extraction & treatment include : a high product to groundwater extraction ratio; aeration of the vadose zone which enhances natural biodegradation of the hydrocarbon contaminants; all treatment components may be housed in a turn-key mobile remedial unit; a simple product recovery technology which can be transferred to conventional remedial applications such as pump and treat, sparging and vapour extraction system(VES) applications. A pocket connection is typically used when the wall below(i. e., foundation wall) continues to the story above the floor level without a change in wall thickness. The pocket connection consists of a void or "pocket" created in the wall by changing block placement or cutting into the block units after the walk is erected. The bearing surface on which the joists(or girders) bear typically is grouted solid creating a horizontal reinforced bond beam that ties together the walls in the story below. Light-frame builders may not be familiar with ledger and pocket connections. Such connections typically do not find much use in light-frame construction. However, ledger and pocket connections are not new to the building industry. For example, wood floor-to-masonry ledger and pocket connections were used in the United States during the 1700s, 1800s, and 1900s in residential masonry homes and continue to perform satisfactorily. 6, record 63, English, - blockout

DTED(Digital Terrain Elevation Data) represents a matrix or grid of measured elevation posts over a portion of the earth's surface. The elevation posts are spaced at regular horizontal intervals, measured in Geographic Lat/Long [latitude/longitude] units, with vertical elevation values in meters. Each row of elevation posts is sometimes termed a profile. ... solar insolation [is] the amount of electromagnetic energy (solar radiation) incident on the surface of the earth. Basically that means how much sunlight is shining down on us. ... The value [is] generally expressed in kWh/m²/day. This is the amount of solar energy that strikes a square metre of the earth’s surface in a single day. Of course this value is averaged to account for differences in the days’ length. There are several units that are used throughout the world. The conversions based on surface area as follows: 1 kWh/m²/day = 317.1 btu/ft²/day = 3.6MJ/m²/day. [...]

This is now the most widely used harvesting method. After bogs are flooded to a depth of about 1 to 2 feet, machines resembling lawn tractors carrying large horizontal reels are passed through the bogs. These reels, about 1 to 2 feet in diameter, churn up the water and vibrate the cranberries loose from the vine. After the berries float to the surface, they are corralled to one end using large floating wooden booms. Berries are then conveyed off the water to waiting trucks for transportation to processing plants. 1, record 90, English, - wet%20harvesting

3, record 94, French, - balayage%20conique
