HORIZONTAL TEMPERATURE ADVECTION [4 records]

Record 1 2023-02-28

English

Subject field(s)
  • Meteorology
CONT

Meteorologists describe the horizontal movement of cold and warm air by the wind as temperature advection... Specifically, cold-air advection... describes the horizontal transport of cold air by the wind... cold-air advection causes local temperatures to decrease with time, and [it is] the primary cause of temperature decreases behind cold frontal passages.

Record 2 2023-02-28

English

Subject field(s)
  • Meteorology
CONT

Basically[, ] marine fog represented by the [climate] model is warm air advection fog, and it was found that the change in the horizontal temperature advection near the surface mostly determines the changes in marine fog in a warmer climate. Therefore, the changes in marine fog can be almost explained by the large-scale circulation changes. On the other hand, in-cloud LWC(liquid water content) of the fog is consistently increased in a warmer climate for the same horizontal surface temperature advection.

Record 3 2023-02-28

English

Subject field(s)
  • Meteorology
CONT

Meteorologists describe the horizontal movement of cold and warm air by the wind as temperature advection... Specifically,... warm-air advection... represents the horizontal transport of warm air by the wind. Acting alone, warm-air advection causes local temperatures to increase with time, and is the primary cause of temperature increases associated with warm frontal passages.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Meteorology
CONT

Horizontal temperature advection plays an especially prominent role in affecting winter climate over continental interiors, where both climatological conditions and extreme weather are strongly regulated by transport of remote air masses.
