Depuis 1997, un groupe de chercheurs, cliniciens et administrateurs du Centre d'épidémiologie clinique et de recherche en santé publique de l'Hôpital général juif, Montréal, Québec, ainsi que du Centre gériatrique Maimonides, Montréal, travaille à développer le Réseau de collaboration pour la recherche en soins de longue durée. Le Réseau a pour buts : L'élaboration et l'accomplissement de projets de recherche développés par les membres du Réseau, dans tous les domaines (médicaux et paramédicaux) qui touchent la distribution des soins aux personnes âgées qui résident en centre hospitalier de soins de longue durée (CHSLD). La collaboration avec d'autres groupes de recherche qui sont également intéressés à développer des projets qui impliquent la population des personnes âgées vivant en institution. L'accès à des personnes ressources (épidémiologistes, statisticiens) du domaine de la recherche, pour faciliter et mener à bien les projets.
