In a remote patient monitoring system, physiological data is collected through biomedical sensors in order to evaluate the well-being of patients outside of the hospital setting. Its purpose is to move traditional clinical settings into people's homes, where they live, work, and play. In order for the appropriate decisions to be made, the data collected is wirelessly transmitted to the healthcare provider. SIPA is a demonstration and evaluation project based on a model of integrated care for the frail elderly. The molecular basis of beta thalassemia in Lebanon has previously been studied in a sample of 25 homozygote individuals. The 25 individuals included in that study had all presented at the American University Hospital and, with the exception of one patient, were all of the Muslim religion. With the advent of PCR, new techniques for mutation screening have emerged, among them the Allele Refractory Mutation System(ARMS) based on allele-specific priming of the amplification reaction.
