Host intrusion detection system (HIDS): A HIDS system is installed on individual devices that are connected to the internet and an organization’s internal network. This solution can detect packets that come from inside the business and additional malicious traffic that a NIDS [network intrusion detection system] solution cannot. It can also discover malicious threats coming from the host, such as a host being infected with malware attempting to spread it across the organization’s system. 1, record 1, English, - host%20intrusion%20detection%20system

Physicians at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center(UPMC) are evaluating the use of LBS-Neurons in the world's first clinical human neuron transplant into a patient's brain. This is the first effort to treat stroke patients with an intracerebral graft of cells. These neurons are provided by Layton Science, Inc., located in Atherton, Cal. Specifically, the Pitt research team expects the LBS-neurons to improve the function of neurons damaged after a stroke. Based on previous studies with an animal model of stroke, researchers think that grafted LBS-Neurons will either enhance the function of host neurons that survive a stroke but are impaired, or replace host neurons that have been destroyed by a stroke. 1, record 4, English, - intracerebral%20graft

2, record 4, French, - greffe%20intrac%C3%A9r%C3%A9brale

The most important aspect of our cloning vectors is that they are based on the E. coli F-factor replicon. It allows for strict copy number control of the clones so that they are stably maintained at 1-2 copies per cell. The stability of the cloned DNA during propagation in E. coli host is substantially higher in lower-copy number vectors than in multi-copy counterparts.... The stabilizing effect of BAC and cosmid vectors is notable especially for certain genomic DNA that are normally unstable in high copy number vectors. 1, record 12, English, - bacterial%20artificial%20chromosome

Fingerprinting Rough Diamonds. Recently, equipment has been developed in Australia to "fingerprint" rough diamonds so that their source can be determined accurately. Although all diamonds are comprised of pure carbon, their chemical composition is unique based on the strength of relative concentrations of minute quantities of impurity elements. The impurity elements come from the host rock in the mine or pit. This new fingerprinting technique enables one to determine exactly the composition of the rock and thus exactly where the rough diamond was mined. 2, record 15, English, - fingerprinting

2, record 15, French, - prise%20d%27empreinte

Throughout its existence, TOKTEN has proven to be a cost-effective and innovative modality to transfer knowledge to over 30 developing countries in a wide spectrum of fields. TOKTEN funds the services of expatriate national experts for well prepared short-term assignments, usually one to three months, with selected host institutions in the government, academic and research institutions, private sector and non-governmental organisations in developing countries. To participate in KIDS FROM KANATA, a teacher needs a computer and modem with access to a telephone line. Participants log in to the Canadian national computer packet network, Datapac, to gain access to the SciLink host computer in Toronto. Most cities in Canada have local phone access to Datapac. SciLink is also available via the Internet, a network of networks connecting educational institutions around the world. Participating schools are organized into triads with a wide geographic dispersion, with each triad hosted by a Native, Aboriginal or First Nations classroom. Students interactively conduct research about their other two triad members under headings such as Health, Environment, Language and Culture, History, Education, Economics, and Politics. As issues are discovered and developed in their own and buddy sites, students present points of view and conduct exercises in conflict resolution to develop solutions based on understanding rather than argument. 1, record 21, English, - Kids%20from%20Kanata
