The Canadian Style is an indispensable language guide for editors, copywriters, students, teachers, lawyers, journalists, secretaries and business people—in fact, anyone writing in the English language in Canada today. It provides concise, up-to-date answers to a host of questions on abbreviations, hyphenation, spelling, the use of capital letters, punctuation and frequently misused or confused words. It deals with letter, memo and report formats, notes, indexes and bibliographies, and geographical names. It also gives techniques for writing clearly and concisely, editing documents and avoiding stereotyping in communications. There is even an appendix on how to present French words in an English text. Note :"The Canadian Style" is available in English only. However, a similar writing tool, "Le guide du rédacteur, "is available in French. 5, record 5, English, - The%20Canadian%20Style%3A%20A%20Guide%20to%20Writing%20and%20Editing

4, record 5, French, - The%20Canadian%20Style%3A%20A%20Guide%20to%20Writing%20and%20Editing

5, record 6, French, - Le%20guide%20du%20r%C3%A9dacteur

The XHTML Basic document type includes the minimal set of modules required to be an XHTML host language document type, and in addition it includes images, forms, basic tables, and object support. It is designed for Web clients that do not support the full set of XHTML features; for example, Web clients such as mobile phones, PDAs, pagers, and settop boxes. The document type is rich enough for content authoring. XHTML Basic is designed as a common base that may be extended. For example, an event module that is more generic than the traditional HTML 4 event system could be added or it could be extended by additional modules from XHTML Modularization such as the Scripting Module. The goal of XHTML Basic is to serve as a common language supported by various kinds of user agents. 1, record 15, English, - XHTML%26trade%3B%20Basic

1, record 15, French, - XHTML%26trade%3B%20El%C3%A9mentaire

To participate in KIDS FROM KANATA, a teacher needs a computer and modem with access to a telephone line. Participants log in to the Canadian national computer packet network, Datapac, to gain access to the SciLink host computer in Toronto. Most cities in Canada have local phone access to Datapac. SciLink is also available via the Internet, a network of networks connecting educational institutions around the world. Participating schools are organized into triads with a wide geographic dispersion, with each triad hosted by a Native, Aboriginal or First Nations classroom. Students interactively conduct research about their other two triad members under headings such as Health, Environment, Language and Culture, History, Education, Economics, and Politics. As issues are discovered and developed in their own and buddy sites, students present points of view and conduct exercises in conflict resolution to develop solutions based on understanding rather than argument. 1, record 59, English, - Kids%20from%20Kanata

1, record 59, French, - Les%20enfants%20du%20Kanata

The Temporary Assignments Program operates on a partial cost-recovery basis whereby the direct costs of assignments are recovered from the host departments. The recovery rate is 88-90 per cent of the appropriated costs.
