A tall iron cylinder lined with firebrick and packed inside with chequer brickwork. The hot gas from the blast furnace, which contains about 28% combustible constituents, together with sufficient air to burn it, passes through the stove until the brickwork is heated to redness. The gas and air are then diverted to a second stove, where the same thing is allowed to occur. Meanwhile the air-blast to the tuyères is passed through the hot brickwork of the firststove, until the brickwork has cooled. The air-blast is thus pre-heated to a temperature of from 700 °C to 800 °C. Cowper stoves work in pairs and are alternatively used to absorb and to emit heat. 3, record 4, English, - Cowper%20stove

Record number: 7, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Early warm-air systems delivered air to and from rooms by gravity circulation in large ducts connected to the furnace in the basement. Since the only force producing circulation was that due to the small difference in density between the hot supply air and the cold return air, a satisfactory volume of air could be moved only by providing very large air ducts and registers and heating the air to a high temperature. The result was a very bulky system that produced hot air at the ceiling and cold air on the floor. 3, record 7, English, - gravity%20warm%2Dair%20heating%20system

Oil furnaces. Indoor oil furnaces... are available in upflow, downflow, horizontal and low-boy configurations for ducted systems. They are also available as floor furnaces, wall furnaces, and free standing space heaters. Oil-fired outdoor furnaces and combination units are rare.... The ducted system, oil-fired, forced air furnaces are usually equipped with pressure-atomizing burners. The pump pressure and the orifice size of the injection nozzle regulate the firing rate of the furnace. Electric ignition is used to ignite the burners.... The combustion chamber and heat exchanger of oil-fired furnaces are normally formed as a common single chamber. It is formed from heavy gage steel into a welded assembly. The hot flue products flow through the inside of the heat exchanger into the chimney. The Büttner Jet Dryer... consists of a stationary drying chamber, a blower arranged behind the drying to throw the particles into a cyclone, inlet and outlet rotary air locks, the furnace, and the connecting ductwork. This dryer has a fluidized bed with the material being fed into the drying chamber(drums) at one end. Hot air is blown into the drum from the bottom and subsequently flows through the bed of material. The furnish is moved forward by rotating raker arms with the material constantly spinning and rotating. 2, record 11, English, - chamber%20dryer

Forced Air Wood Furnaces. Central wood-burning furnaces are controlled by a wall mounted thermostat in the living area. Temperature and fan controls are the same as those found on oil and gas furnaces. Unlike room heaters, which produce a steady heat output by periodic manual adjustments of the draft control, most wood furnaces operate in cycles. A cycle starts with the thermostat sensing that heat is needed in the room where it is located. It signals the furnace control system which opens the combustion air damper and a hot fire develops. When the air inside the furnace's sheet metal casing gets hot, a preset fan control starts the circulating blower and the warm air is moved through the ducts to all areas of the house. 1, record 12, English, - forced%20air%20wood%20furnace
