Sometimes, conventional steam cylinder methods are used for the drying of coatings.... More often, other methods must be used to avoid disturbing the coating film. The two methods employed most often are hot air impingement and infra-red drying. High-velocity convective hoods placed over conventional steam cylinders are a popular method of drying single-sided coatings. Tunnel-drying is another approach, suitable for both single-and double-coated sheets. In this method, the air temperature is controlled to suit the drying requirements and speed of the machine, while the paper is carried through the tunnel on rollers, supported on foils, or held up by air-impingement.  1, record 1, English, - tunnel%20drying

On utilise parfois des sécheurs classiques pour sécher les papiers couchés [...] mais on emploie en général d'autres techniques pour éviter d'abîmer le film de couche. On utilise essentiellement les techniques de séchage par air chaud et par infrarouge. On sèche très couramment les couchés simple face au moyen de cylindres classiques chauffés à la vapeur et surmontés par une hotte où l'air convectif circule à grande vitesse. Le séchage en tunnel est une autre méthode qui s'adapte aussi bien aux couchés simple face qu'aux couchés double face. Dans ce cas, le papier est soutenu par des rouleaux, supporté par des racles ou aéroporté. air impingement : A method of heat transfer in the paper industry using impinging air jets to provide high heat transfer rates, such as in the drying of lightweight paper grade of tissue and toweling. The ultimate in sizing treatments is achieved by tub sizing. Here the sheet is run through a shallow bath containing a solution of starch and other additives, and the excess solution is removed by passing the sheet through a light nip. Initial drying of the sized sheet is usually accomplished by hot air impingement to avoid disturbing the size film. In tub sizing, the objective is not only to improve surface properties, but also to impregnate the sheet sufficiently to improve such properties as ply bond, burst, stiffness and tensile strength. Collage en bassin. La dernière opération de collage peut se faire en bassin. Le feuille passe dans un bain peu profond contenant une solution d'amidon et d'autres adjuvants; l'excès de colle est enlevé par passage dans une pince assez lâche. On commence à sécher la feuille par soufflage d'air chaud pour ne pas altérer le film de colle. Ce type de collage peut se faire sur machine, mais les meilleurs résultats sont obtenus hors machine. Air Float Dryer.... principle of operation.... The pulp web is carried in a number of passes through a chamber in which heated air is used both for drying and for supporting the web. Capital and operating costs are similar to the steam cylinder system, but most pulp producers favor the air float dryer because it is easier to operate and maintain. In the earlier models of the air dryer, the pulp web is carried on mechanical conveyors and hot air is blown between the passes. The later designs incorporate true air impingement above and below the web; this principle provides much higher evaporation rates and eliminates the mechanical conveyor. Typically, the pulp web enters at the top, makes a number of horizontal passes turning around rollers at each end, and leaves at the bottom of the dryer at the opposite end.  1, record 4, English, - air%20float%20dryer

Séchoir à feuille aéroportée. Le principe du séchoir à feuille aéroportée est illustré aux figures 9-56 à 9-59 inclusivement. La feuille de pâte effectue un certain nombre de passages à l'intérieur d'une enceinte dans laquelle l'air chauffé sert à la fois au séchage et au support de la feuille. Les coûts d'immobilisation et d'exploitation afférents sont à peu près semblables à ceux de la sécherie à cylindres sécheurs, mais la plupart des fabricants de pâte préfèrent le séchoir à feuille aéroportée en raison de sa plus grande simplicité d'exploitation et d'entretien.
