A cast-iron skillet, having been properly seasoned, is nonstick enough to please most cooks. The seasoning of a cast-iron skillet is done by coating the hot surface of the pan with oil then letting it rest—repeatedly. This creates a thin layer of polymerized oil that bonds with the surface of the pan. 2, record 1, English, - seasoning

During the late middle ages as grapes ripened in the vineyards of Burgundy a quick harvest was needed and the noontime meal was often skipped. Johann du Putzxe was a monk who made a kind of fast food by dunking pieces of meat into hot oil. The Swiss later adapted this as a variety of fondue. The pot is filled with oil(or butter) and brought to simmer. Each person spears small cubes of beef or horse meat with a long, narrow fondue fork and fries them in the pot. An assortment of sauces and sometimes a further cheese fondue are provided for dipping. 5, record 4, English, - bourguignonne%20fondue

1, record 4, French, - fondue%20bourguignonne

An actual case of a confined space hazard from compressed oxygen is this one involving seam-welding containers. During the assembly procedure, a small section of a seam was miswelded. The worker attempting to repair the seam climbed into the tank. After a few seconds inside, the tank became hot and smoky. Oxygen from the torch was used to ventilate the space and because of the oxygen-enriched atmosphere, the oxygen reacted with the oil and grease stains on the clothes. 1, record 7, English, - oxygen%2Denriched%20atmosphere

Combustion Override Split Production Horizontal Well Process(COSH). The main feature of this process, developed by the Alberta Research Council(ARC), is implementation of gravity drainage using a basal horizontal well in a combustion process. The configuration of different wells is critical to the operation of this process. A linear configuration of vertical air injection wells is drilled and completed in the upper portion of the reservoir. A horizontal oil production well is completed in the bottom of the reservoir, aligned and positioned beneath the vertical injection wells. The reservoir is prepared for ignition and combustion is initiated at each of the injection wells. A hot fluid-transmissive chamber is formed around each of the injection wells as combustion proceeds. Combustion gas communication is established with the gas production wells. Heated oil and water, produced by the combustion front in each hot chamber, drains under the effect of gravity and is brought to the surface through the horizontal production well. 3, record 9, English, - combustion%20override%20split%20production%20horizontal%20well%20process

Record number: 9, Textual support number: 1 OBS
2, record 9, French, - combustion%20in%20situ%20avec%20puits%20de%20production%20horizontal

In order to concentrate resources on those areas that are most vulnerable, conservationists have identified certain areas as biodiversity hotspots. Hotspots are often defined according to their plant vegetation. Most vinyl roofing membranes are sealed using hot air, which can be compared to welding metal. The process joins two rolls of membranes at the overlap areas (without using another dissimilar material) to create one monolithic layer that covers the entire roof. The heat-welded, permanently fused seams on vinyl roofing membrane form a watertight seal, and their peel strength can be critical to the roof system’s long-term performance against wind forces. 3, record 16, English, - monolithic%20layer

ROOF technology allows old roof membrane to be renewed without removal. ROOF technology is based upon a thermochemical treatment of bitumen roof coating. There are two sub-types : pure suspension and cyclonic. Pure suspension units are true "burners" in that a stable open flame(similar to a gas or oil burner flame) is created by air jets that are usually mounted in the wall of the combustor or boiler. Cyclonic suspension units have a refractory cylindrical combustion chamber into which the fuel particles and air are introduced tangentially. The long cyclonic gas circulation keeps the fuel circulating in the chamber, resulting in complete combustion of the fuel, but all ash normally exits with the hot exhaust gases. Fuel is fed to both types of these burners by pneumatic feeders with the fuel air stream forming the primary air supply. 2, record 29, English, - suspension%20burner

1, record 29, French, - chaudi%C3%A8re%20%C3%A0%20lit%20en%20suspension

Dr. Karl Clark, a scientist working for the Alberta Research Council, developed and patented the hot water extraction technique... Oil sand is mixed with hot water creating a slurry. Early methods used large tumbler drums to condition the slurry. Today, hydrotransport pipelines are used to condition and transport the oil sand from the mine to the extraction plant. The slurry is fed into a separation vessel where it separates into three layers-sand, water and bitumen. The bitumen is then skimmed off the top to be cleaned and processed further. Secondary recoveries are made with the middlings zone of the separation vessels to return the smaller quantities of bitumen that would otherwise flow to the settling ponds. Ph levels and temperature are key variables in the process. 2, record 35, English, - hot%20water%20extraction%20process

2, record 35, French, - proc%C3%A9d%C3%A9%20d%27extraction%20%C3%A0%20l%27eau%20chaude

Seismic Monitoring of "Hot" and "Cold" Heavy Oil Production.... The application of seismic monitoring for "cold flow" mapping is even more challenging. In "cold flow" heavy oil production of oil sands, we see the development of high porosity zones known as "wormholes". These high porosity zones are much smaller than a seismic wavelength so their detection will be extremely difficult. Nevertheless, it is interesting to speculate whether time-lapse seismology has a role to play in the reservoir characterization of "cold flow" as well as in steam injection.... Emerging Interest in Seismic Monitoring of "Cold Flow" and "Wormholes". In addition to the production of heavy oil from the steam injection in Pikes Peak field, there is production from "cold flow" heavy oil fields in the surrounding areas. In the "cold flow" production process, oil and sand are simultaneously produced in unconsolidated heavy oil reservoirs by using non-thermal extraction. 2, record 40, English, - cold%20flow%20production

2, record 40, French, - production%20froide%20des%20huiles%20visqueuses

A small yet growing opportunity exists for biochemists and engineers interested in turning "extremozymes" into industrial catalysts. In nature, these peculiar enzymes fuel microbes that live in scalding sea vents, hot springs, and other adverse locales. Such hardiness means extremozymes might function in hotter, more high-pressure manufacturing conditions than can today's industrial enzymes. As a result, extremozymes could speed up or maximize reactions used to make food, detergents, and drugs; remediate toxic waste; and drill for oil. 1, record 47, English, - extremozyme

Return Flow Mechanical Atomizing Oil Burners. This [commercial-industrial oil] burner is a modification of a mechanical atomizing burner; atomization is accomplished by oil pressure alone.... The burner was developed for use in large installations such as on shipboard and in electric generating stations.... It is also used for firing large hot water boilers compressed air is too expensive for atomizing oil in large burners.... Wide range is accomplished by use of a return-flow nozzle which has a swirl chamber just ahead of the orifice or sprayer plate. Good atomization is attained by maintaining a high rate of oil flow and high pressure drop through the swirl chamber. The excess oil above the load demand is returned from the swirl chamber to the oil storage tank or to the oil pump suction. Control of burning rate is accomplished by varying the oil pressure in both the oil inlet and the oil return lines. 1, record 52, English, - return%20flow%20mechanical%20atomizing%20oil%20burner

Forced Air Wood Furnaces. Central wood-burning furnaces are controlled by a wall mounted thermostat in the living area. Temperature and fan controls are the same as those found on oil and gas furnaces. Unlike room heaters, which produce a steady heat output by periodic manual adjustments of the draft control, most wood furnaces operate in cycles. A cycle starts with the thermostat sensing that heat is needed in the room where it is located. It signals the furnace control system which opens the combustion air damper and a hot fire develops. When the air inside the furnace's sheet metal casing gets hot, a preset fan control starts the circulating blower and the warm air is moved through the ducts to all areas of the house. 1, record 64, English, - forced%20air%20wood%20furnace
