HOT PHASE [5 records]

Record 1 2006-03-15

English

Subject field(s)
  • Farming Techniques
  • Soil Improvement and Fertilizer Management
  • Organic Farming
CONT

The pile [of compost] reaches the highest temperature, between 55 to 60 degrees Celsius, when the degree of microbial activity is greatest. The temperature of the pile will rise quickly as this is the most active stage of microbial activity, which is referred to as the thermophilic stage.

CONT

The time required for the active phase will depend on the materials, ambient air temperatures, and the composting method.

OBS

... decomposition is done by aerobic, thermophilic, organisms including bacteria, actinomycetes, fungi and protozoa.

CONT

CONT

spouted bed gasifier.... a single-chamber air-fed gasifier operated on a cyclical basis, to yield a high calorific-value gas essentially uncontaminated by carbon dioxide or nitrogen. Wood chips or wood pellets are fed on top of a bed of hot sand in the reactor, and are then mixed by spouting the bed using steam. Some gasification occurs during this phase, but most takes place during the ensuing "cooking" phase during which the bed is static. When the temperature has fallen to a suitably low value air is admitted to burn the char and raise the temperature of the sand to its original value. Wood is then added to begin a new cycle.

CONT

The use of binary fluids need not of course be limited only to the water phase of wet fluids : it could equally be applied to both the steam and hot water phases simultaneously.

CONT

... Total flow cycle... The difficulties of extracting a maximum of heat from the hot water phase of wet field fluids has led to the total flow concept in which both the steam and the hot water are subjected to the full available heat drop as limited only by the supply pressure.

OBS

Ideally, the maximum power would be extracted from the hot water phase in a wet field by using an infinite number of flash vessels connected in cascade(multiflash) or at any rate by using one flash vessel for every turbine stage; but such a procedure would be an economic absurdity. It can, however, sometimes pay to provide two flash vessels.
