HOT TACK [4 records]

Record 1 2018-08-31

English

Subject field(s)
  • Occupation Names (General)
  • Horse Racing and Equestrian Sports
CONT

The hot walker's number one task is to cool out the horse and he or she must be waiting for the horse when it returns from the track. The exercise rider will stop the horse in the shed row or stall and remove the tack... and the hot walker will... then walk the horse to cool it out from the jog, gallop or breeze it had. Hot walkers walk the horse inside in the barn or in an outside oval walking ring and will stop every lap or so to offer the horse water.

CONT

Geomembranes made in situ(ie, at the construction site) are usually continuous(ie, with no seam) and are made by spraying or otherwise placing a hot or cold viscous material onto a substrate. The geomembranes made by spraying are commonly referred to as "spray-applied geomembranes" or "spray-on geomembranes". The base product of the sprayed material is commonly asphalt, an asphalt-elastomer compound... or a polymer such as polyurethane. The sprayed material forms a continuous flexible film with little or no tack after curing. If the material is applied onto an existing surface(ie, earth or concrete) the spray-applied geomembrane is non-reinforced. If the material is applied onto a fabric or geotextile, the resulting membrane is reinforced....

OBS

Sprayed-on geomembrane: see the Index part, p. 8, in source GIRGE, 1985.

OBS

Use: instant glue, adhesives for surgical materials, metals, plastic, artificial nails, rubber and glass. Cross reacts with ethylacrylates.

CONT

The three most common forms of CA are often referred to as ’hot’, ’gap filling’ and 'slow’. Hot CA is very thin and has strong wicking properties. It dries in only a few seconds, Gap filling CA is a little thicker and generally comes in 15-30 second bond times. Slow CA forms the strongest bond but its bond times are also much longer. Hot or gap filling CA is often used to tack parts into place prior to applying a stronger adhesive with a much longer bonding time(such as an epoxy).

OBS

acrylate: This term is very often used alone to designate "cyanoacrylate adhesive" and "cyanoacrylate glue" (also called "Super Glue"). See also those records in TERMIUM.
