English

Subject field(s)
  • Thermal Springs - Uses
  • Geophysics
CONT

A primitive classification of geothermal field types distinguishes two broad classes :-low-enthalpy fields(hot water fields)...-high-enthalpy fields(wet steam or dry steam fields)...

OBS

Since geothermal fields require both water and heat for their existence, they are often referred to as "hydrothermal system."

Domaine(s)
  • Thermalisme
  • Géophysique
CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Energy Transformation
  • Effects of Heat (Energy Transfer)
  • Geological Research and Exploration
CONT

Hot water fields contain a water reservoir at temperatures ranging from 30°C to 100°C. Such fields can be useful for space heating, agricultural and various industrial purposes.

CONT

In general, a hot water field will tend to produce a zone of "low" resistivity, mainly on account of the dissolved salts, whereas a steam field will tend to show up a "high" resistivity zone.

Subject field(s)
  • Cooking Appliances
  • Hotel Equipment
CONT

New technology is set to invade the most important room in the house : the kitchen. Soon you’ll be able to throw out that ancient microwave and cook with a "flashbake" oven using photons, or units of electromagnetic radiation. This oven cooks food just like a conventional oven-cooking from the outside and browning food but in half the time. Appliances are also getting safer. A breakthrough called an induction stove focuses a magnetic field above the burner that boils water in 20 seconds, but will not burn anything else. Only the content of the pot become hot.

Subject field(s)
  • Oil Production
DEF

A method of thermal recovery in which water at the boiling point is injected into a formation to lower the viscosity of the oil and allow it to flow more freely toward producing wells.

CONT

Hot water injection may be preferred in shallow reservoirs containing oils in the viscosity range of 100-1000 cp.

CONT

... field tests of hot water flooding have been hampered by viscous fingering and low volumetric sweep efficiency.

OBS

Although generally less effective than steam injection because of lower heat, hot waterflooding may be preferable under certain conditions, such as formation sensitivity to fresh water or high pressures.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Production pétrolière
CONT

OBS

Ideally, the maximum power would be extracted from the hot water phase in a wet field by using an infinite number of flash vessels connected in cascade(multiflash) or at any rate by using one flash vessel for every turbine stage; but such a procedure would be an economic absurdity. It can, however, sometimes pay to provide two flash vessels.
