... the TSB [Transportation Safety Board of Canada] analyzed specifically the aircraft steering system, while not ignoring the other factors mentioned above, although no indication was found that they could have contributed to the occurrence. To steer the aircraft on the ground, the pilot in the left seat uses the nose-gear steering wheel on the console to the pilot's left. During take-off and landing, directional control of the aircraft is maintained solely by the rudder. The aircraft's ground steering system comprises several components, including the nose-gear steering wheel, a system of cables and pulleys, and a steering control valve fitted to a nose-wheel steering cylinder, which is attached to the nose-wheel strut. The cable and pulley system links the steering wheel to the control valve. When the pilot turns the steering wheel to the left or right, tension is applied to the cables connected to the pulley on the steering control valve. This action determines the direction and the deflection rate of the nose wheel by allowing hydraulic fluid to enter one side or the other side of the nose-wheel steering cylinder; the steering cylinder then deflects the nose wheel through a system of gears. 3, record 9, English, - aircraft%20steering%20system

4, record 9, French, - syst%C3%A8me%20d%27orientation

Engine-driven pumps.... engine-driven hydraulic pumps are of the variable-displacement(VD) type. Each pump has a maximum displacement of 1. 77 cu in. per revolution and at 3000 rpm delivers approximately 22 1/2 gpm at 2850 psi. Pump discharge pressure is limited by a pressure compensator and each pump may be depressurized by an electrically controlled depressurizing valve.... It will be remembered that the output of a VD pump is determined by the angle of a cam plate which rotates to produce a reciprocating action of the pump pistons. The cam-plate angle is changed by varying the position of the hanger upon which it is mounted. 2, record 13, English, - engine%2Ddriven%20hydraulic%20pump

Subirrigation(seepage) systems are based on establishment and maintenance of the high water table just beneath the crop root zone. Due to the capillary action the water migrates upward providing necessary moisture for the crop. For this system to function, the top layer of soil must have high hydraulic conductivity typical for sand or muck. The existence of natural high water table or restrictive layer(clay, rock, etc.) below the root zone is necessary to allow for the buildup and regulation of the irrigation water table throughout the season. Raising the water table in addition to providing for the evapotranspirational demand of the crop, requires large quantities of water which must also be available for seepage irrigation. 6, record 15, English, - subsurface%20irrigation

... another possible way of creating permeability in hot dry rocks is «impact fracturing». This method... [may be described in its principle. ] A bore, cased except near the lower extremity, is surmounted by a hydraulic accumulator, filled with water and pressurized by means of a pump until the accumulator weight is lifted. The lifting pressure should be perhaps about 90% of the estimated hydro-fracturing pressure. A dynamic blow would then be struck upon the top of the water column by means of some device resembling a pile-driver, so that shock waves would travel to the base of the bore and be reflected up and down at attenuating intensity. Very high instantaneous pressures would be generated which would fracture the rock, and it is expected that the steepness of the pressure rise would be such as to resemble explosive action, so that the «star» formation... would be produced. 1, record 17, English, - impact%20fracturing

Clogging, blocking and blinding. If the geotextile pore openings are slightly too small, then there will be insufficient initial wash-through of fine soil particles to promote the rapid formation of an efficient graded filter in the adjacent soil. Where the geotextile pore openings are even smaller, then there is a serious risk that either blinding, severe blocking or severe clogging will develop with time. Blocking is where soil particles resting on the surface of the geotextile, either totally or partially obstruct the pore openings. ... Blinding is a special form of severe blocking, where the soil grading permits the suffusion of fine soil particles which are too large to pass through the geotextile. ... Where the size of many of the soil particles is very close to that of the geotextile pore openings, then they are likely to enter the pores and become trapped within the geotextile. This can cause severe clogging which is most likely to arise in thick non-woven geotextiles with a complex pore structure. 3, record 26, English, - clogging
