The specific objectives of the CIMES [Critical Infrastructure Monitoring for the Energy Sector] project are to apply RADARSAT-2 high-resolution change detection and ground deformation capabilities for monitoring energy sector infrastructure, to develop 3-dimensional InSAR [interferometric synthetic aperture radar] deformation products specifically for dam movement monitoring(such as tailings dams and hydro power dams), provide accuracy parameters on the magnitude and direction of movement, and to assess and improve the coherence on InSAR pairs that are impacted by processor decorrelation. 1, record 1, English, - processor%20decorrelation

The IJC [International Joint Commission] has approved limited peaking and ponding operations at the Moses-Saunders Dam in order to match operations to power demand. Ponding reduces discharge on the weekend and increases it on weekdays, while meeting the required weekly average. It is allowed only during the non-navigation season(generally mid-December through March), with a maximum combined deviation for NYPA [New York Power Authority] and OH [Ontario Hydro] of 8, 000 cfs above and 20, 000 cfs below the weekly average discharge(when the weekly average is 272, 000 cfs or less). Peaking reduces discharge during the night and increases it during the day, while meeting the required daily average. It is allowed throughout the year, with a maximum combined deviation of 30, 000 cfs above or below the daily average discharge(when the weekly average is 250, 000 cfs or less). 1, record 2, English, - peaking%20and%20ponding%20operations

Dams are built for specific purposes. In ancient times, they were built only for water supply or irrigation. [Later, ] navigation dams with locks were constructed on the major rivers. Dams have become more complex to meet large power demands... The reservoir level of a hydro-power dam is maintained as constant as feasible... 1, record 3, English, - hydro%2Dpower%20dam
