... a reaction to atmospheric water vapour. 1, record 1, English, - hygrotropism
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Hygrotropism, a term apparently first introduced by Th. Savory... Water vapour is an extremely active component of an invertebrate's environment, and many creatures, and especially the Arachnida, are sensitive to hygroscopic change. This tropism is responsible for many of the peculiarities in the localisation of Spiders to small areas within their total range. 1, record 1, English, - hygrotropism

A tropism is a directed reflex, concerned with bodily orientation in response to a particular type of stimulus, so that symmetrically placed sense-organs receive equally intense stimulation. ... many ... kinds of tropism ... can be detected in the study of the habits of ... animals. 1, record 1, English, - hygrotropism

3, record 1, French, - hygrotropisme
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
2, record 1, French, - hygrotropisme

An insect’s behavior patterns are key to its survival. For the most part, these patterns are inherited and the instinctive reactions they produce are called tropisms. A tropism may be either positive, if the reaction is toward the stimulus, or negative, if the reaction is away from the stimulus. Tropisms are named by using the names of the stimuli as prefixes which produce the reaction. The following are examples of tropisms which affect insects: Phototropism ... Geotropism ... Heliotropism ... Chemotropism -- response to chemical stimuli. 4, record 2, English, - chemotropism

2, record 2, French, - chimiotropisme
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Chimiotropisme. 3, record 2, French, - chimiotropisme
