Roof in the shape of a double-curved shell, the geometry of which is generated by straight lines. The shape consists of a continuous plane developing from a parabolic arch in one direction to a similar inverted parabola in another.

Paraboloïde hyperbolique. On peut considérer cette surface à double courbure inverse comme engendrée par une droite qui se déplace en s'appuyant sur deux droites fixes non situées dans un même plan. Il est donc possible de réaliser une telle surface réglée gauche par le croisement d'éléments rectilignes (planches, câbles, etc.), soit de façon définitive, en lui superposant une étanchéité, soit comme cintrage d'une coque en matériau plastique armé (ciment ou résine). Une des premières applications du paraboloïde hyperbolique, ou P.H., ou «selle de cheval» a été la couverture suspendue de la halle de Raleigh (États-Unis) [...]
