CONT

Lactic acidosis is a form of metabolic acidosis that begins when a person overproduces or underutilizes lactic acid, and their body is not able to adjust to these changes.... There are two types of lactic acidosis, Type A and Type B : Type A lactic acidosis is caused by tissue hypoperfusion resulting from hypovolemia, cardiac failure, sepsis, or cardiopulmonary arrest[;] Type B lactic acidosis is caused by impairment of cellular functioning and localized areas of tissue hypoperfusion.

CONT

OBS

acidose lactique : Le terme «acidose lactique» est parfois utilisé pour désigner l'acidose lactique congénitale.

Subject field(s)
  • Symptoms (Medicine)
CONT

Hypovolemic shock is the most common type of shock and is due to an absolute and often sudden reduction in circulating blood volume relative to the capacity of the vascular system. The classic hemodynamic features of this type of shock include tachycardia, hypotension, reduced cardiac filling pressures, and peripheral vasoconstriction. An important aspect of this type of shock is the rapidity with which hypovolemia occurs.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Symptômes (Médecine)
DEF

Record 4 2004-09-27

English

Subject field(s)
  • Hormones
CONT

Vasopressin. This important osmolality-regulating and vasoconstrictor hormone is released from the posterior pituitary primarily in response to increases in osmolality as well as in response to hypovolemia. Vasopressin appears to play a role in the circulatory control response to shock by being both an antidiuretic and a vasoconstrictor. In addition, vasopressin stimulates release of adrenocorticotropin(ACTH) and cortisol.

DEF

OBS

The ideal blood substitute continues to be elusive. An oxygen-carrying volume expander ideally must lack antigenicity so that it can be administered unmatched without the fear of immune reactions.

CONT

Hextend [R] [is] a synthetic blood plasma volume expander to be used during major elective surgeries such as orthopedic, urologic, and GI [Gastrointestinal] procedures to prevent hypovolemia, in which extensive blood loss results in diminished blood flow to the body's organs.

CONT
