Appelé hythane et développé au Colorado, le nouveau carburant qui alimenterait les véhicules est composé, en volume, à 15 pour cent d'hydrogène et à 85 pour cent de méthane. Ainsi mélangé, l'hydrogène neutralise substantiellement les émanations polluantes du gaz naturel, en plus de ne produire lui-même qu'un peu d'eau et une trace d'azote. Adieu la fumée noire donc, un autobus propulsé à l'hythane ne produirait qu'un filet d'eau et d'infimes quantités de monoxyde de carbone dans l'air montréalais!
