Angiotensin II (Ang II) raises blood pressure (BP) by a number of actions, the most important ones being vasoconstriction, sympathetic nervous stimulation, increased aldosterone biosynthesis and renal actions. Other Ang II actions include induction of growth, cell migration, and mitosis of vascular smooth muscle cells, increased synthesis of collagen type I and III in fibroblasts, leading to thickening of the vascular wall and myocardium, and fibrosis.

"Right" is used by the old writers on real property law in the technical sense of a right which an owner of land had when he had been disseised, so that he had only the right of recovering possession either by entry or action. His estate was then said to be turned to a right....(I) f(he) further suffered a certain time to elapse, or had judgment given against him in a possessory action, he could no longer recover by possessory action, but only by an action on the right, meaning the right of ownership as opposed to the right to possession. I am fascinated by the mutability of the water and mist that characterize the Falls of Niagara. The "fleeting moment" is evident when anyone examines these two aspects of the waterfall. The mist and water formations are in a constant state of change; a particular mist-cloud arrangement and simultaneous wave action will never be repeated twice in time, therefore every moment is precious.

Alpha and beta interferons play an important role in the regulation of the normal immune response. The abnormal production of type I interferons can, however, lead to an inappropriate immune response and to the development of autoimmunity and to the rejection of allografts. The cloning of the type I interferon receptor in our laboratory has enabled us to synthesise soluble variants of the receptor and to isolate a monoclonal antibody capable of inhibiting the biologic action of all the type I interferons tested. We have shown that treatment of monkeys with the anti-interferon receptor antibody together with a subeffective dose of cyclosporin A results in permanent survival of skin and bone marrow allografts.

Short stretches of RNA have been found attached to the 5’ ends of many newly synthesized DNA chains. The starting points for DNA replication may therefore be recognized not by a DNA polymerase, but by a form of RNA polymerase. Following binding of a starter RNA polymerase, a number of ribonucleotides are sequentially linked together until a stop signal is read. The enzyme then detaches leaving a short RNA chain still bound to its DNA template. This RNA chain then serves as a primer onto which DNA polymerase III adds deoxynucleotides. Removal of the RNA primer occurs later through the action of other enzyme(s) which can digest away the RNA component of RNA/DNA hybrids. One enzyme that has this capacity is DNA polymerase I, whose primary task may be to close the gaps between RNA-primed DNA fragments.
