The materials used in cloud seeding include two primary categories, tied to the type of precipitation process involved. One category includes those which act as glaciogenic (ice-forming) agents, such as silver iodide, dry ice and compressed liquid propane or carbon dioxide, which are appropriate in cloud systems where the precipitation process is primarily cold (colder than freezing). Of the ice-forming materials, the most commonly used is silver iodide. 3, record 2, English, - ice%2Dforming%20substance

Soft rime is a white ice deposition that forms when the water droplets in light freezing fog or mist freeze to the outer surfaces of objects, with calm or light wind... Soft rime formations have the appearance of white ice needles and scales; they are fragile and can be easily shaken off objects. Factors that favour soft rime are small drop size, slow accretion of liquid water, high degree of supercooling, and fast dissipation of latent heat of fusion. 2, record 3, English, - soft%20rime

Weather observations at Gander are taken from two locations. The primary observation site is located on the roof of the terminal building; a second observation site is located at ground level about 200 feet from the terminal building. When freezing precipitation is present or suspected, weather observers use an ice accretion indicator composed of a small piece of aluminum alloy similar to that found in aircraft structure. It is placed outside at the observation site and inspected for the presence of freezing precipitation at each observation. Mandatory weather observations are taken every 30 minutes, at the hour and half hour. When freezing precipitation is present, the indicator is removed and a new one installed at each mandatory observation. Prior to installation, the indicator is pre-cooled to ambient temperature. Thus, when observed at the next observation following installation, the indicator shows the type and quantity of freezing precipitation which occurred in the previous 30 minutes. 2, record 5, English, - ice%20accretion%20indicator

Freezing fog may not always deposit rime or glaze on the "Ice Accretion Indicator", however if rime or glaze are evident, it positively indicates the presence of super-cooled water droplets and thus freezing rain, freezing drizzle or freezing fog is occurring. Freezing fog creates a significant risk of airframe icing and is therefore very important operational information for forecasters, pilots, flight service specialists, observers, communicators and others. 3, record 5, English, - ice%20accretion%20indicator

Fog is similar to clouds in that it is a result of a supersaturated atmosphere, except that it is located at the surface of the earth. Fog classification is based on the temperature at which it exists. Evaporation fog occurs when you get cold air advection over warm water or warm, moist land surfaces resulting in fog formation as water evaporates into the cold air. This type of fog is sometimes called steam fog or sea smoke. 9, record 9, English, - steam%20fog
