Skid control is all about learning how to control and correct the car in the event of a skid, i. e when your tyres lose traction for whatever reason. It could be oil on the road, black ice, snow or standing water that makes you skid. When it happens, the front or rear end of you car moves out and you slide. Skid control will teach you how to recognise what type of skid you’re in(front/understeer or rear/oversteer) and how to get out of it safely.... Skid control schools offer a mix of one to one and small group lessons, so check with each individual supplier.

For example, RADARSAT-1 is providing the first routine surveillance of the entire Arctic region, offering daily coverage regardless of weather conditions. This information is useful to shipping companies in North America, Europe and Asia, and to government agencies with ice reconnaissance and mapping mandates.

The polar ice sheets are sedimentary deposits that contain records of past precipitation, atmospheric gases and wind blown material that was deposited without water or ice precipitation. Deep polar ice can be collected from these stratigraphic sequences by deep ice coring and used to address many high profile questions about the structure and function of the earth system.

A group of scientists has identified a subglacial lake in Antarctica that could serve as a testing ground for sterile drilling into deep polar ice. Scientists are eager to examine any bacteria living in subglacial lakes, since the environment is so extreme and the organisms have likely been evolutionarily isolated for millions of years.

Polar ice consists of sea ice formed from the freezing of sea water, and ice sheets and glaciers formed from the accumulation and compaction of falling snow. Both types of ice extend over vast areas of the polar regions.
