Jacques Plante, a goaler for the hockey team "Le Canadien de Montréal", is the first hockey player to have worn a mask in the 1960's. The practice became popular to the point that now every goaler wears a complete "mask" while many offensive players wear a "face shield, guard or protector" attached to their helmet, hence the difficulty distinguishing among the different terms. The idea is now accepted by players in many sports :ice, field or roller hockey, short-track speed skating, ringette, etc. The protection worn by the receiver in baseball stands in the same category. 8, record 30, English, - face%20mask

The origins of most ice sports are understandably rooted in countries and regions of the world that have colder climates.... Most residents and natives of these areas have grown up with, and enjoy participating in ice sports such as broom ball, ice hockey, curling, figure skating, speed skating and ringette. However, these sports are also very popular in many other parts of the world with some of them such as curling, ice hockey, figure skating and speed skating, being Olympic sports. Most of these sports originated outdoors on frozen lakes, rivers and ponds many years ago and although they can still be enjoyed outdoors, they are now mainly played indoors from the comfort and warmth of luxurious ice arenas. 2, record 40, English, - ice%20sport

10, record 46, French, - enceinte%20du%20but

If hockey is our most popular national game, then nobody does a better job of making us feel like Canadians that the people of Plaster Rock. Every year, this community brings together 96 teams from across North America to compete for the "World Pond Hockey Championships". This is "four-on-four" play, with no goaltenders and plenty of action! All games are outdoors on a lake which is home to 24 ice surfaces. This means that many teams can play simultaneously for an exciting three days. Nothing like this exists anywhere else in the world. Essentially, a “one piece” composite stick is a composite shaft fused together with a composite blade. The joint created above the heel is then sanded down and the entire stick is painted in a flowing one-piece design so that it appears that the [ice hockey] stick is “one piece”, although, in reality, it is a two-piece fused product. 2, record 72, English, - composite%20stick

During 2001, the higher-priced segment of the stick market shifted from wooden sticks to the more technically advanced composite sticks. These sticks, which are made from a combination of various fibres, including glass fibre, carbon and aramid, have quite a few advantages over wooden sticks. A composite stick [for field hockey] is made in a mould. Once the mould has been engineered, every stick produced from that mould will have exactly the same design and will therefore be consistent. 3, record 72, English, - composite%20stick

2, record 88, French, - patinage%20intensif
Record number: 88, Textual support number: 1 OBS
