Traditionally, when dealing with patients, medical practitioners bill only for face-to-face consultations. Nowadays, a significant portion of a doctor's billable time is spent in consulting with patients over the telephone and speaking to other doctors about patients. Both due to traditional and administrative hurdles, such time is rarely, if ever, billed out. As a result, private medical practitioners can only afford to spend a limited amount of unremunerated time consulting by telephone. Whilst a face-to-face consultation is usually necessary to make a full clinical diagnosis, in many cases, it is possible to provide a certain level of advice remotely(especially for subsequent consultations). 1, record 5, English, - face%2Dto%2Dface%20consultation

The strength-training benefits of paddles depend largely on a swimmer's awareness of hand speed. If a hand paddle increases the area of the swimmer's propulsive surface, and the swimmer moves the hand with the paddle at the same speed as without the paddle, the swimmer will generate more propulsion. However, because of the larger surface area, a swimmer will naturally move the hand through the water more slowly with the paddle than without at first. As a general rule of Canadian evidence law, the previous out-of-court statements of a witness or victim are not to be the subject of testimony in court. In regard to statements by a child who is not called as a witness, any statements made by the child to others would normally be regarded as hearsay and therefore inadmissible. Although the general rules about the exclusion of previous consistent statements and hearsay are basically sound, they can be problematic when applied to cases involving children who are victims of abuse. Not infrequently in child abuse cases, the initial disclosures of abuse by the child to a parent or another trusted person are graphic and highly revealing. Conversely, if the accused argues that a child has been subject to improper coaching or interviewing to make the allegations, [an] inquiry into the circumstances in which the allegations were first made can be vitally important. As a result of these types of concerns Canadian judges have significantly liberalized the rules about admitting this type of evidence, making changes to the common law that in some other countries have been achieved by legislative reforms. 3, record 8, English, - victim%20of%20abuse

The procedure is based on the principle that two digital radiographic images obtained under different time intervals, with the same projection geometry, are spatially and densitometrically aligned using specific software. When the two images are registered and intensities of corresponding pixels are subtracted of the gray scale values, a uniform difference image is produced, resulting in a new image representing the differences between the two, called the subtraction image. In this new image, if there is a change in the radiographic attenuation between the baseline and follow-up examination, all the anatomical structures that do not change between radiographs are shown as neutral gray background, while regions that had mineral loss or gain are shown as a darker or brighter area, respectively... 1, record 9, English, - digital%20subtraction%20radiography

In the world of investing, anchoring bias manifests when investors rely heavily on initial information, such as past performance or a specific price, when making decision. Recipes for Organic Indigo Vats[. ] Try different combinations or experiment with local plants and fruits. For example, we have found mixing two organic reducing agents, such as henna and fructose, gives a strong indigo vat. These vats give the best results if they are made the day before dyeing.... Remember to cover your vat when not in use. These organic vats were originally developed by Michel Garcia, a botanist and dye chemist with a deep knowledge of how colour behaves on the molecular level. Milking robots are automatic milking systems where milking is performed without direct participation of an operator. The cows are milked throughout the day, including 1 or 2 h needed for cleaning the equipment. An average number of milkings per day is 2.5–3. The result is by 10–15% higher production. Cows may visit a milking robot voluntarily or they may be directed to do it through automatic gates. Generally in barns with a milking robot, cows are kept indoors all year. 8, record 15, English, - milking%20robot

Buffer Blasting. Buffer blasting is possibly the most simple method of control blasting and involves a modification to the last row of the main blast pattern. Modifications are limited to reduced burden, spacing, and explosive loads. The aim is to limit ground shock from the blast. The method is usually employed in conjunction with some other control blasting technique, such as pre-splitting, and its results are quite economical. Buffer blasting can only be used by itself when the ground is fairly competent. It may produce minor crest fracturing or backbreak but the amount of damage is less than would be produced by the main production blast if no control blasting was used at all. 2, record 18, English, - buffer%20blasting

Alpha-gal syndrome(AGS) is a serious and unusual food allergy to red(mammalian) meat. It occurs in people who have been bitten by certain types of ticks, usually if they’ve been bitten more than once.... The saliva of some ticks contains a sugar molecule called alpha-gal(α-Gal). When alpha-gal enters the bloodstream, it can increase your sensitivity to red meat. This can trigger an immune system response. Your body reacts as if red meat is harmful, causing allergic symptoms. People with AGS may also react to other products containing alpha-gal, including medications and personal care products. 3, record 22, English, - alpha%2Dgal%20syndrome

2, record 22, French, - syndrome%20alpha%2Dgal

... the breed and size of individual cattle affects their target "finished weight[, ]" when they are fat enough to go to slaughter.... A common mistake among many pasture-finishing programs is that they fail to account for size differences in their cattle finishing programs. They often want to slaughter all their calves by the end of the second growing season to avoid another winter of high feed costs. But larger-sized calves within the group will still be underfinished — they need more time. If they are slaughtered at the same time as the smaller-framed calves, their beef will be tough. 8, record 24, English, - finishing%20weight

In many fields, it has been the custom to define particle size ranges with common behaviour, sources or composition using the method of measurement embedded in the definition. An example is the term "ultrafine particles" defined as particles with equivalent diameters smaller than 100 nm. The equivalent diameter refers to the practice of reporting the size of a particle of unknown composition or shape as if the particle had known composition and spherical shape. For example, when the particles are measured using an inertial based instrument, the aerodynamic diameter is an equivalent diameter, computed as if the particle had unity specific gravity and a spherical shape corresponding to the measured particle settling velocity. Unfortunately, the term "ultrafine particle" is sometimes used interchangeably with the term "nanoparticle. "Initially, the term "nanoparticle" was used to describe man-made particles smaller than 100 nm with unique properties. 3, record 26, English, - ultrafine%20particle

3, record 26, French, - particule%20ultrafine

The identification of stock structure is a necessary step for the effective management of multistock fisheries. As stocks are reproductively isolated from other members of the population, disregard of individual stock dynamics may alter genetic diversity of a population if one or more stocks are lost due to overexploitation or other causes... The knowledge of individual stock dynamics allows managers to assess fish population stability and set sustainable harvest limits. Monitoring inidividual stock dynamics within a population provides the opportunity to assess differential survival and contribution to the fishery. Bronze disease is the irreversible and nearly inexorable corrosion process occurring when chlorides come into contact with bronze or other copper-bearing alloys. It occurs as a dark green or a lighter fuzzy green coating on copper, bronze, and other copper-bearing alloys generally due either to contamination by salt water or after burial in dirt(as chloride salts are generally present in soil to some degree). If not treated, complete destruction of the affected artefact is possible. When a public official is impeached, that is, formally accused of wrongdoing, this is only the start of what can be a lengthy process that may or may not lead to the official' s removal from office. The Klemheist knot(or Machard knot) is a type of friction hitch used as a part of a system to ascend or descend a climbing rope.... A Prusik loop is wrapped round the climbing rope two or three times. The loop is then threaded through itself and carefully tightened to wrap the climbing rope neatly. In use, strain must only be taken on the hanging loop. Never grip and pull on the knot itself-a rapid descent can occur! If the knot slips when load is placed on the hanging loop, wrap the loop around the climbing rope another time or two as necessary until there is no slippage. 6, record 43, English, - Klemheist%20knot

The knot is tied with a thin cord, usually 5 mm or 6 mm in diameter, onto the rope. The climber then attaches himself to the knot by clipping the cord onto his harness. Progress up a fixed rope is made by sliding the knot up the rope and then weighting or loading it with the climber’s weight. When loaded, the Klemheist knot cinches onto the climbing rope, allowing the climber to progress upward. When the knot is unloaded, it loosens, allowing the climber to slide it up the rope. 7, record 43, English, - Klemheist%20knot

Elementary particles can be described in terms of a few simple properties. The most obvious of these are the mass and electric charge of the particle.... In classical electromagnetic theory, it is well known that a charged particle that is moving through a magnetic field will be deflected. If the particle... is spinning about some axis the deflection will be changed; i. e. the particle will go in a different direction than if it wasn’t spinning. The effect will depend on both the rate of spin and the rotation axis. In quantum mechanics, a similar effect is observed with any quantum particle. When passed through magnetic fields, they behave as if they are spinning electric charges. What's more, they behave as if their rates of spin are integral 0, 1, 2,... or half-integral(1/2, 3/2,...) of a base unit... much like charges come in basic multiples of the electron's charge. The concept of spin here is a bit more abstract than in the classical case. With a classical particle you can paint a little dot on the particle... and directly measure the rotation rate by counting the number of times you see the spot in a minute. This is not possible for quantum particles. They are not little spinning balls in that sense. 1, record 47, English, - quantum%20mechanical%20spin

Though the Court has thus not been expressly authorized to apply equity as distinguished from law, Article 38(1) c) expressly directs the application of «general principles of law recognized by civilized nations»... and in several States, as noted above, principles of equity have an established place in their municipal legal systems. 1, record 53, French, - %C3%A9quit%C3%A9

Record number: 59, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Kielland's forceps [were] originally designed to deliver the fetal head at or above the pelvic brim, lying in the transverse axis of the pelvis and rotating it when it had reached the pelvic cavity. The forceps is used today for rotation and extraction of the head which is arrested in the deep transverse or occipito-posterior position. The blades have very little pelvic curve and are virtually an axis traction forceps. A large episiotomy is needed. The shallowness of the curve allows safe rotation in the vagina. Downward traction encourages rotation of the head. The claw lock allows the blades to slide on each other and correct or encourage synclitism of the fetal head as required. The range of movement allowed by the lock makes it possible to apply lethal compression to the fetal head if the instrument is used improperly 6, record 59, English, - Kjelland%26rsquo%3Bs%20forceps

If the fetus’s head needs to be rotated, there is now a tendency to use manual rotation, rotation with a vacuum extractor, or caesarean section in preference to Kielland’s rotational forceps. This change in practice arose in the 1980s after high rates of neonatal morbidity and mortality were associated with Kielland’s forceps ... Kielland’s forceps are only used for select cases and by experienced obstetricians. 7, record 59, English, - Kjelland%26rsquo%3Bs%20forceps

Record number: 60, Textual support number: 1 CONT
A Turk's head knot is a decorative knot with a basket weave pattern surrounding a cylinder shaped object. The name is used to describe the general family of all such knots rather than one individual knot. The most common use for the Turk's head is to mark the "king spoke" of a vessel' s wheel; when this spoke is upright the rudder is in a central position. Otherwise, the knot is used mostly for decoration, and occasionally as anti-chafing protection. The number of leads of a Turk's head is the number of crossings it makes as it goes around the circumference of the cylinder. The number of bends is the number of strands along the long axis of the cylinder. Depending on the number of leads and bends, a Turk's head may be tied using a single strand or multiple strands. Mathematically, the number of strands is the greatest common divisor of the number of leads and the number of bends; the knot may be tied with a single strand if and only if the two numbers are coprime. The knot was originally named because of its resemblance to a turban. 6, record 60, English, - Turk%26rsquo%3Bs%20head

Solar heating is heat created by the energy of the sun. Solar heat can be either active or passive. Passive solar heating, as the name suggests, takes advantage of the heat created through natural means(heat created when sunlight passes through a window and becomes trapped inside a building). Active solar heating systems are made up of three components : the solar collector, energy storage, and distribution pipes or ducts. Sunlight is collected by absorber panels, conditioned if required, and distributed through the building by a heat transfer fluid or by air. 2, record 61, English, - solar%20heating

An ex-vessel steam explosion may occur if the primary system is breached by hot debris. Debris in the reactor outlet piping may fail the piping and fall onto the pump room floor or debris on the reactor vessel bottom may be blocked from flowing into the outlet piping if it freezes in the effluent piping nozzle muff structure. If this occurs, the debris will heat up on the reactor vessel bottom and eventually fail the bottom shield. The likely mode of failure of the bottom shield is collapse of the shield as a whole. If it collapses, the entire shield, as well as the molten debris, will fall into the pin room below the reactor vessel. The debris will then flow across the floor into the pump room. In either event, a large portion of the reactor fuel inventory will be deposited on the pump room floor. The pump room floor will be covered with water in many scenarios. A steam explosion may result when the debris enters this water. 1, record 63, English, - ex%2Dvessel%20explosion

Outlast was developed for NASA and is consistently used in maier sports jackets as the material with automatic air-conditioning. Millions of microscopic PCM (phase change material) capsules store warmth during body activity and distribute them in the rest period. When the encapsulated PCM [phase change material] is heated to the melting point, it absorbs heat energy as it goes from a solid state to a liquid state. This phase change produces a temporary cooling effect in the clothing layers... The heat energy may come from the body(e. g. when the wearer first dons the garment) or from a warm environment. Once the PCM has completely melted, the storage of heat stops. If the PCM garment is worn in a cold environment where the temperature is below the PCM's freezing point, and the fabric temperature drops below this transition temperature, the micro-encapsulated liquid PCM will change back to a solid state, generating heat energy and a temporary warming effect... The developers claim that this heat exchange produces a buffering effect in clothing, minimizing changes in skin temperature and prolonging the thermal comfort of the wearer. 5, record 64, English, - phase%2Dchange%20microcapsule

One of the mistakes that can occur when the towing vehicle is not properly lined up with the semi-trailer on a level surface is referred to as a "high hook, "where the king pin is not at its proper place on the fifth wheel(i. e. too far forward on the assembly) that if then taken onto the road can disconnect during transit with potentially catastrophic consequences. 1, record 71, English, - high%20hook

The custom of secondary burial, or ossilegium, predominates throughout the Roman period. When the reinterred remains of individuals are buried in small containers known as ossuaries, most scholars are inclined to think of this phenomenon as being associated with Jerusalem.... The reasons for secondary burial are complex. Certainly reburial was a convenient way of returning the remains of a loved one to the family tomb if to do so was impossible at death. 2, record 72, English, - secondary%20burial

There are no convincing arguments for any one cutoff score; rather, the content, context, and type of student will determine the passing level. It will also depend on your intentions for the test. A mastery test will require a very high pass mark, while an ordinary quiz or classroom test is likely to be less stringent. Gyroscopic precession... When force is applied to a gyro, the device reacts as if the force had been applied at a point 90 degrees from the point of actual application, in the direction of rotation. Precession affects propellers, which act like gyros, and gyro instruments. Its principle effect is on the heading indicator, which tends to drift over time. 8, record 76, English, - precessional%20motion

A gyroscope will not only resist being moved out of its vertical position, it will also generate force as it attempts to travel in large, circular patterns. These patterns are most easily seen with a spinning top. As the top begins losing its energy, it never simply spirals straight down in the same direction that it was originally spinning. As it destabilizes, it will always begin slowly rotating or precessing in a slow, even circle that is in the opposite direction to its normal spinning motion. These circular patterns are known as "precessional" motions, and they are another aspect of a gyroscope’s movement that will occur either in air or in a vacuum and can be used to overcome gravity. 9, record 76, English, - precessional%20motion

If an airplane changes suddenly from a nose up to a nose down position, as is the case during the take-off roll in a tail wheel airplane, the airplane will yaw sharply to the left as the pilot shoves the wheel forward to raise the tail. Once a diesel engine is running, the engine speed is monitored and controlled through a governor. The governor ensures that the engine speed stays high enough to idle at the right speed and that the engine speed will not rise too high when full power is demanded. The governor is a simple mechanical device which first appeared on steam engines.... The governor consists of a rotating shaft, which is driven by the diesel engine. A pair of flyweights are linked to the shaft and they rotate as it rotates. The centrifugal force caused by the rotation causes the weights to be thrown outwards as the speed of the shaft rises. If the speed falls the weights move inwards. The flyweights are linked to a collar fitted around the shaft by a pair of arms. As the weights move out, so the collar rises on the shaft. If the weights move inwards, the collar moves down the shaft. The movement of the collar is used to operate the fuel rack lever controlling the amount of fuel supplied to the engine by the injectors. 2, record 85, English, - governor

The first really major breakthrough from an optical-communications viewpoint was made by scientists at Corning Glass Works when they developed fibers based on high silicas.... They achieved these low-loss fibers by a flame-hydrolysis method in which silicon tetrachloride with, if desired, a suitable dopant halide, would react with oxygen to form a white silica soot deposited on a silica mandrel. Rotating the mandrel and translating the flame back and forth causes a buildup of the white soot deposit. By varying the dopant concentration during this buildup, the Corning scientists were also able to achieve a gradient in the composition. Subsequently, the soot is consolidated into a clear glass by an appropriate heat treatment, after which the mandrel is removed. From this "preform", as it is called, a fiber can be drawn, those layers deposited first becoming the core and the later layers the cladding. 1, record 86, English, - flame%2Dhydrolysis%20method

In such a test, the oil is carefully heated in a test tube; if any break is present, the oil clouds at about 260°C and within 5° to 25°C the break will have separated. In many fields it has been the custom to define particle size ranges with common behaviour, sources or composition using the method of measurement embedded in the definition. An example is the term "ultrafine particle, "which is defined as a particle with an equivalent diameter smaller than 100 nm. Equivalent diameter refers to the practice of reporting the size of a particle of unknown composition or shape as if the particle had known composition and spherical shape. For example, when the particles are measured using an inertial based instrument, aerodynamic diameter is an equivalent diameter computed as if the particle had unity specific gravity and a spherical shape corresponding to the measured particle settling velocity. Unfortunately the term "ultrafine particle" is sometimes used interchangeably with the term "nanoparticle. "Initially, the term "nanoparticle" was used to describe man-made particles smaller than 100 nm with unique properties. 1, record 88, English, - equivalent%20diameter

1, record 88, French, - diam%C3%A8tre%20%C3%A9quivalent

Rules : There are 3 teams, each with a different color jersey.... There are 4 players on each team... The players on the defensive teams form a square around the ball. This same square constantly follows all the movements of the ball. Each player is responsible for a corner of the square and is situated about 10-12 feet from the ball. The ball starts in the middle and one team sets up a serve. The serving formation is as follows; 2-4 players kneel down facing each other with heads down and arms outstretched. The ball is placed on their outstretched arms. The server approaches the ball and says "Omnikin" and another color(example : Omnikin Red!) before striking the ball with the fist in an upward motion. When the color is announced and the ball is in the air, the corresponding team must catch the ball before it hits the ground. If successful, that team sets up the serve immediately. If the team does not catch the ball before it touches the ground, then one point is awarded to each of the other teams on the court and that same team serves the ball. 3, record 91, English, - Kin%2DBall%C2%AE%20sport

1, record 91, French, - sport%20Kin%2DBall%C2%AE

The word, heirs, is necessary in the grant or donation in order to make a fee, or inheritance. For if land be given to a man for ever, or to him and his assigns for ever, this vests in him but an estate for life.... [This rule] does not extend to devises by will; in which, as they were introduced at the time when the feodal rigor was apace wearing out, a more liberal construction is allowed : and therefore by a devise to a man for ever, or to one and his assigns for ever, or to one in fee-simple, the devisee hath an estate of inheritance; for the intention of the devisor is sufficiently plain from the words of perpetuity annexed, though be hath omitted the legal words of inheritance. But if the devise be to a man and his assigns, without annexing words of perpetuity, there the devisee shall take only an estate for life; for it does not appear the devisor intended any more....(Blackstone, Book II, p. 107-108) 1, record 100, English, - words%20of%20perpetuity
