IGNITION GAP [7 records]

Record 1 2016-07-19

English

Subject field(s)
  • Capacitors (Static Electr.)
OBS

The capacitor is in parallel with the high voltage circuit, meaning the energy delivered by the ignition coil sees the capacitor and the spark gap simultaneously. While the voltage is ionizing the gap, energy is flowing into the capacitor(charging the capacitor).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Condensateurs (Élect. statique)
CONT

Record 2 2016-06-08

English

Subject field(s)
  • Ignition Systems (Motor Vehicles)
  • Coils and Windings (Electrical Components)
DEF

A coil which produces high voltage for ignition in the battery coil ignition system or the magneto ignition system.

CONT

The ignition coil transforms, or steps up, the 6 or 12 volts of the battery to the high voltage required to make the current jump the spark-plug gap.

OBS

ignition coil; ignition armature: terms and definition standardized by ISO.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Allumage (Véhicules automobiles)
  • Bobines et bobinage (Composants électrotechniques)
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Telecommunications Transmission
  • Vacuum Tubes (Electronics)
DEF

In gas-filled tubes, the current in one gap required to establish ignition of another gap under stated conditions.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Transmission (Télécommunications)
  • Tubes et lampes (Électronique)
DEF

Record 4 2000-05-25

English

Subject field(s)
  • Burners and Steamfitting
DEF

Electrical noise, caused by ignition current feeding through the flame to the flame rod, which is superimposed on the flame signal(flame rod detectors only). The interference may be additive or subtractive.(It may increase or decrease the flame signal.) Subtractive interference may cause the flame relay to drop out; severe additive interference may damage the flame relay unless an arc gap protector is in the circuit.

Record 5 2000-05-25

English

Subject field(s)
  • Burners and Steamfitting
  • Transformers
DEF

A device which provides high-voltage spark which will cause ignition.

CONT

The ignition transformer, commonly known as a step-up transformer, is used to step up the voltage to 5, 000 V in order to jump the gap at the end of the ignition electrode. Ignition transformers are quite trouble-free, and require only that the primary voltage correspond to that of the transformer, that the electrical connections be clean and tight, and that the secondary terminals be kept clean. If the secondary terminal post becomes fouled with soot, dust, or foreign matter, the high-tension spark can easily short circuit to the transformer case, resulting in no spark at the ignition electrode. A transformer in good condition should cause the spark to jump a gap of no less than 1/4 in.

OBS

In the automotive field this device is called the "ignition coil".

French

Domaine(s)
  • Fumisterie et brûleurs
  • Transformateurs
CONT

Chauffage [...]
