Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The rotary engine, or Wankel engine, is somewhat similar to the standard piston engine in that it is a spark ignition, internal-combustion engine. Its mechanical design, however, is quite different.... The heart of a rotary engine is a roughly triangular rotor that "walks" around a smaller, rigidly mounted gear. 4, record 3, English, - rotary%20engine
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The rotor is connected to the crankshaft through additional gears in such a manner that, for every rotation of the rotor, the crankshaft revolves three times. The tips of the triangular rotor move within the housing and are in constant contact with the housing walls. As the rotor moves, the volume between each side of the rotor and the housing walls continually changes. 4, record 3, English, - rotary%20engine

Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 CONT
4, record 3, French, - moteur%20%C3%A0%20piston%20rotatif

An oil burner is defined by the National Oil Fuel Institute as a mechanical device for preparing fuel oil to combine with air under controlled conditions for combustion. Two methods(atomization and vaporization) are used for the preparation of fuel oil for the combustion process. Air for combustion is supplied by natural or mechanical draft. Ignition is generally accomplished by an electric spark, gas pilot flame, or oil pilot flame. Burners of different types operate with luminous or nonluminous flame. Operation may be continuous, intermittent, modulating, or high-low flame. 4, record 9, English, - oil%20burner

Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition, or HCCI, is a relatively new combustion technology. It is a hybrid of the traditional spark ignition(SI) and the compression ignition process(such as a Diesel engine). In addition, HCCI is a lean combustion process. These conditions translate to a lower local flame temperature which lower the amount of Nitric Oxide(NOx) produced in the process. 3, record 23, English, - homogeneous%20charge%20compression%20ignition

Direct injection(DI) refers to fuel injected directly into the combustion chamber above the piston. Direct injection has long been used on large diesel engines. Smaller diesels are increasingly adopting direct injection(vs. indirect injection into a pre-chamber). Direct injection also can be used in spark ignition(generally gasoline) engines instead of port fuel injection-for cleaner emissions, increased full throttle power and potentially for lean-burn operation. 4, record 24, English, - direct%20injection%20engine

The motor-driven pump draws oil from the supply tank and delivers it to the nozzle at pressures of from 100 to 300 psi. The nozzle atomizes the oil into fine particles and swirls it into the combustion chamber as a cone-shaped spray where it mixes with air [moving down the blast gun tube] and is ignited. The ignition transformer, commonly known as a step-up transformer, is used to step up the voltage to 5, 000 V in order to jump the gap at the end of the ignition electrode. Ignition transformers are quite trouble-free, and require only that the primary voltage correspond to that of the transformer, that the electrical connections be clean and tight, and that the secondary terminals be kept clean. If the secondary terminal post becomes fouled with soot, dust, or foreign matter, the high-tension spark can easily short circuit to the transformer case, resulting in no spark at the ignition electrode. A transformer in good condition should cause the spark to jump a gap of no less than 1/4 in. 3, record 37, English, - ignition%20transformer

Domestic burners... employ either one of two methods to prepare the fuel oil for combustion. These are atomization(spraying) and vaporization(heating). Atomization or spraying is divided into three types, namely, high-pressure atomization, low-pressure atomization, and centrifugal atomization. With high-pressure atomization used by high-pressure gun-type burners, the oil pressure is built up to 100 psi by a pump and delivered through an oil line to a specially designed nozzle from which it sprays out into the combustion chamber in a vaporous cloud of tiny globules or droplets. This mist of fine oil droplets is met by a current of air moving down the blast(gun) tube, and the oil and air mix in the combustion chamber after leaving the burner. Ignition is accomplished with an electric spark. 2, record 47, English, - high%2Dpressure%20atomization

The high pressure atomizing type gun... burner supplies oil to the atomizing nozzle at 689 to 2067 kPa. A blower is used to supply the air for combustion, and a damper or other adjustable means regulates the air supply at the burner. Ignition is usually established by a high voltage electric spark which may be intermittent, sometimes called constant ignition(on when the burner motor is on) or interrupted(on only to start combustion). Typically these burners fire into a combustion chamber in which negative draft is maintained. 1, record 50, English, - constant%20ignition

Detonating explosives are usually subdivided into two categories, primary and secondary. Primary explosives detonate by ignition from some source such as flame, spark, impact, or other means that will produce heat of sufficient magnitude. Secondary explosives require a detonator and, in some cases, a supplementary booster. A few explosives can be both primary and secondary depending on the conditions of use. 1, record 51, English, - secondary%20explosive

3, record 51, French, - explosif%20secondaire
