Electric spark ignitors are generally used only for ignition of distillate grades of fuel oil. The spark is generated by a transformer, which supplies up to 10 000 V to the sparking electrodes. The burner also forces combustion air into oil spray, causing an intimate and turbulent mixing of air and oil. Oil furnace operations have not changed very much. On a call for heat from the thermostat, the burner motor will start. Oil is now pumped to the nozzle, and the ignition transformer is energized. The nozzle is designed to spray the oil into the fire tube as a fine mist. The ignition transformer is designed to create an electrical arc across the electrodes. As the oil mist(also mixed with air) comes in contact with the arc, ignition takes place, and the fire is started. 2, record 3, English, - call%20for%20heat

Burner controller: The controller is usually located in front of the burner. On a call for heat the controller starts a sequence of events that ensure safe operation before the burner is allowed to start. The controller continues to monitor burner operation while the boiler is running. If for any reason the controller senses an unsafe operating condition it will shut the burner off. Pushing the manual reset on the controller will often restart the boiler. 3, record 3, English, - call%20for%20heat

High pressure, gun-type burners consist of a motor, oil pump(with integral or separate pressure regulating and shut-off valve), strainer, fan, ignition transformer, nozzle and electrode assembly.... The motor-driven pump draws oil from the supply tank and delivers it to the nozzle at pressures of from 100 to 300 psi. The nozzle atomizes the oil into fine particles and swirls it into the combustion chamber as a cone-shaped spray where it mixes with air [moving down the blast gun tube] and is ignited. [By an electric spark]. They are generally designed to burn No. 2 oil although some of the larger sizes are made for No. 4 oil. 4, record 5, English, - high%20pressure%20atomizing%20type%20gun%20burner

The ignition transformer, commonly known as a step-up transformer, is used to step up the voltage to 5, 000 V in order to jump the gap at the end of the ignition electrode. Ignition transformers are quite trouble-free, and require only that the primary voltage correspond to that of the transformer, that the electrical connections be clean and tight, and that the secondary terminals be kept clean. If the secondary terminal post becomes fouled with soot, dust, or foreign matter, the high-tension spark can easily short circuit to the transformer case, resulting in no spark at the ignition electrode. A transformer in good condition should cause the spark to jump a gap of no less than 1/4 in. 3, record 8, English, - ignition%20transformer
