English

Subject field(s)
  • Burners and Steamfitting
CONT

Oil furnace operations have not changed very much. On a call for heat from the thermostat, the burner motor will start. Oil is now pumped to the nozzle, and the ignition transformer is energized. The nozzle is designed to spray the oil into the fire tube as a fine mist. The ignition transformer is designed to create an electrical arc across the electrodes. As the oil mist(also mixed with air) comes in contact with the arc, ignition takes place, and the fire is started.

CONT

Burner controller: The controller is usually located in front of the burner. On a call for heat the controller starts a sequence of events that ensure safe operation before the burner is allowed to start. The controller continues to monitor burner operation while the boiler is running. If for any reason the controller senses an unsafe operating condition it will shut the burner off. Pushing the manual reset on the controller will often restart the boiler.

Subject field(s)
  • Gas and Oil Heating
CONT

Modern combustion equipment has a primary control, known as a cadmium sulphide cell, mounted in the burner blast tube. The light from the flame activates it. These devices are energized whenever the burner is operating. This is known as "constant ignition". Many older types of stack relays work intermittently, providing ignition only on start-up.

Subject field(s)
  • Burners and Steamfitting
CONT

High pressure, gun-type burners consist of a motor, oil pump(with integral or separate pressure regulating and shut-off valve), strainer, fan, ignition transformer, nozzle and electrode assembly.... The motor-driven pump draws oil from the supply tank and delivers it to the nozzle at pressures of from 100 to 300 psi. The nozzle atomizes the oil into fine particles and swirls it into the combustion chamber as a cone-shaped spray where it mixes with air [moving down the blast gun tube] and is ignited. [By an electric spark]. They are generally designed to burn No. 2 oil although some of the larger sizes are made for No. 4 oil.

  • Fumisterie et brûleurs
CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Ovens, Furnaces and Boilers (Heating)
DEF

An indirect-fired heating system in which heating is accomplished by radiation or convection from tubular elements. The tubes are gas-tight, heat-resistant, open at one or both ends, and capable of withstanding explosion pressure from ignition of fuel-air mixtures. Each tube has an inlet and/or burner arrangement where combustion is initiated, a suitable length where combustion occurs, and an outlet for the combustion products formed.

OBS

Principe.

Subject field(s)
  • Burners and Steamfitting
  • Gas and Oil Heating
CONT

Domestic burners... employ either one of two methods to prepare the fuel oil for combustion. These are atomization(spraying) and vaporization(heating). Atomization or spraying is divided into three types, namely, high-pressure atomization, low-pressure atomization, and centrifugal atomization. With high-pressure atomization used by high-pressure gun-type burners, the oil pressure is built up to 100 psi by a pump and delivered through an oil line to a specially designed nozzle from which it sprays out into the combustion chamber in a vaporous cloud of tiny globules or droplets. This mist of fine oil droplets is met by a current of air moving down the blast(gun) tube, and the oil and air mix in the combustion chamber after leaving the burner. Ignition is accomplished with an electric spark.

CONT
