Comme leur nom l'indique, les "ornithopodes" (de "ornithos", oiseau) ont des "caractères aviens" (...). Leurs mâchoires possèdent à la fois des "dents" et un "bec". Beaucoup de leurs os sont pneumatiques. Les ornithopodes, comme les sauropodes, étaient tous herbivores et remarquables par la petitesse relative de leur cerveau (...). Les trois principaux types du groupe sont, les uns quadrupèdes (stégosaures, tricératops), les autres bipèdes (iguanodontes).
