The establishment of CIDA's Indigenous Issues Secretariat(IIS) within its Policy Branch. The mandate of the IIS is to identify and promote opportunities for the Agency to provide direct development support to IPs, and to promote consideration of IP development issues in mainstream programming for poverty reduction and sustainable development. The Secretariat's work is organized in four mutually reinforcing strategic areas : a) policy and program coherence with CIDA; b) engagement of IP, in particular Aboriginal Canadians; c) interdepartmental policy coherence and collaboration; and d) policy convergence with bilateral and multilateral donor agencies.
