Supóngase un robot cuyo objetivo es insertar una pieza de precisión en otra que tiene una cavidad con la forma de la primera. Para ello, el robot cuenta con una cámara de video montada sobre él [...] La pieza con la cavidad puede estar orientada, inicialmente, de cualquier manera con respecto al efector final del robot que lleva la pieza de precisión. Aquí se ilustra un ejemplo de lo que es el control servovisual ya que, en principio, la imagen que se tiene del escenario es diferente a la imagen que se desea, es decir, aquella que debe "ver" el robot para poder insertar la pieza. La imagen deseada es la referencia que se introduce al sistema, para que en cada instante de tiempo se le compare con la real y, en respuesta, el controlador ejecute la acción pertinente moviendo el robot hasta reducir el error a cero. Se muestra entonces cómo los movimientos del robot son controlados con base en la imagen obtenida en cada instante. El control servovisual ofrece ventajas en relación con el control visual en lazo abierto; principalmente, ser independiente de la precisión de los sensores de visión así como de la precisión del robot.

"Precision Map Image" products have even greater positional accuracy than "Map Image" products. Ground Control Points(GCPs) as well as a map projection are used to spatially align the image. To order a "Precision Map Image" product, ground control points from a map or provided through Global Positional Satellite(GPS) technology are required. To further enhance the positional accuracy of the image, Digital Elevation Models(DEMs) can be used to correct terrain distortions. A DEM at sufficient detail will be needed to provide ortho-correction services.

The planimetric accuracy of the orthoimages depends on control data, the digital elevation model(DEM), and the methodology used to extract the positions of the control points on the image. The best sources of control data currently available in Canada were used to generate the orthoimages. A number of control sources were used to correct the Landsat 7 images, namely provincial vector data, roads resulting from the global positioning system(GPS), data from the National Topographic Data Base(NTBD), and geometrically corrected aerial photography(orthophotos). The control points extracted from the sources generally represent road intersections and centres of mass of lakes or islands. Different DEMs also served in generating these orthoimages; provincial DEMs and Canadian Digital Elevation Data(CDED) at the 1 : 50 000 and the 1 : 250 000 scales. Planimetric accuracy is obtained by analyzing the parameters of the geometric correction model(SRIT), the accuracy of the source data used to correct the image, and DEM accuracy.

La précision planimétrique des ortho-images dépend du contrôle, du modèle numérique d'élévation (MNE) et de la méthodologie utilisée pour extraire la position des points de contrôle dans l'image. Les meilleures sources de contrôle disponibles au Canada à cette époque ont servi à générer les ortho-images. Plusieurs sources de contrôle ont été utilisées pour corriger les images Landsat 7, soit : des données vectorielles provinciales, des routes issues du système de positionnement global (GPS), des données de la Base nationale de données topographiques (BNDT) et des photographies aériennes corrigées géométriquement (ortho-photos). Ces points de contrôle extraits des sources provenaient généralement des intersections de routes et des centres de masse des lacs ou d'îles. Différents MNE ont aussi servi à générer ces ortho-images, soit : des MNE provinciaux, des données numériques d'élévation du Canada (DNEC) au 1/50 000 et des DNEC au 1/250 000. La précision planimétrique est obtenue par l'analyse des paramètres du modèle servant à la correction géométrique (SRIT), de la précision des données sources utilisées pour corriger l'image et de la précision du MNE.

The Orlan spacesuit was used for Russian EVA's on Salyut, Mir, and the International Space Station. It was designed by the Zvezda OKB [Russia : Experimental Design Bureau], and derived from the Kretchet suit intended for use on the lunar surface. It consisted of flexible limbs attached to a one-piece rigid body/helmet unit. The suit was entered through a hatch in the rear of the torso. The exterior of the hatch housed the life support equipment. Maximum operation time was three hours when the Orlan-D version of the suit was first used on Salyut 6. Later Orlan-DM versions of the suit increased this period to nine hours. The integrated design meant that no external hoses were required as in the American space suits. The suit standard pressure was 0. 40 atmospheres, so that a prebreathe period of only 30 minutes was required. Electrical power and communications were via an umbilical cord to the station. Control of the suit was via a panel on the chest, with the markings in mirror image. The cosmonaut viewed the panel using a mirror on the wrist of the suit.

LANTIRN consists of a navigation pod and a targeting pod integrated and mounted externally beneath the aircraft. The AN/AAQ-13 navigation pod provides high-speed penetration and precision attack on tactical targets at night and in adverse weather. The naviation pod also contains a terrain-following radar and a fixed infrared sensor, which provides a visual cue and input to the aircraft's flight control system, enabling it to maintain a preselected altitude above the terrain and avoid obstacles. This sensor displays an infrared image of the terrain in front of the aircraft, to the pilot, on a head-up display. The navigation pod enables the pilot to fly along the general contour of the terrain at high speed, using mountains, valleys and the cover of darkness to avoid detection.

The primary ground station will send the processed data to users via the satellite at a high and a low rate. High Rate Information Transmission(HRIT) will contain the full volume of processed, compressed image data and Low Rate Information Transmission(LRIT) will contain a reduced set at lower resolution. In the Meteorological Products Extraction Facility(MPEF) meteorological products are operationally extracted from METEOSAT image data for use in forecasting and research work. The extraction is performed in an automatic processing scheme and includes an automatic quality control step as an integral part of the processing. The products are produced in near real time on a networked system of HP Apollo workstations running proprietary software. The system runs in "chains" where two workstations operate together to produce all products. Due to the CPU load required to produce the wind products, the processing is partitioned such that these products are generated on one of the chain processors, whilst the remaining products are derived on the other chain processor.
