The inventors have recognized the benefits of providing an augmented reality system that may be capable of automatically identifying and tracking features within a three-dimensional environment for the purpose of projecting information into the three-dimensional environment to instruct an operator in a specific procedure. In one embodiment, a method for providing an augmented reality includes the steps of : identifying a feature within a three-dimensional environment; projecting first information into the three-dimensional environment; collecting an image of the three-dimensional environment and the projected information; determining at least one of distance and orientation of the feature from the projected first information in the collected image; identifying an object within the three-dimensional environment; and performing markerless tracking of the object. In another embodiment, a method for providing augmented reality includes the steps of : collecting visual information of an environment; identifying a plurality of features within the environment; comparing the plurality of features to a visual signature to identify a situation; performing markerless tracking of the plurality of features; and providing a visual prompt to a user regarding the identified situation. 1, record 1, English, - markerless%20tracking

Confocal microscopy. Unlike "normal" microscopy, only a spot of a minimum size in the specimen is illuminated in confocal microscopy. To enable an image to be formed from this, the specimen must be scanned. The image of the spot is directed through a pinhole stop in an intermediate image plane. As a result, only light from the focal plane can reach the detector(a photomultiplier). All other(out-of-focus) planes are blocked out. This results in an "optical section". The images are stored electronically and displayed on a monitor. A series of optical sections can be recorded by moving a motor a slight distance along the z-axis each time an image has been recorded, after which the next image is then also recorded. Such a z-series permits the electronic reconstruction of the three-dimensional structure using suitable computer programs. The procedure, which is restricted to incident-light techniques, has completely revolutionized fluorescence microscopy in biology in particular. 2, record 9, English, - confocal%20microscopy

Antenna pattern correction. The brightness of the image is affected by the antenna gain variation where the near range will receive maximum power while the far range will receive minimum power. This effect produces an image that varies in intensity(tone) along the range direction across the image. The antenna pattern effect is expressed as the energy returned to the radar and decreases dramatically as the range distance increases. Antenna pattern correction is applied to produce a uniform average brightness across the imaged swath. 3, record 25, English, - antenna%20pattern%20correction

The spatial resolution of a RADAR image is controlled by the size of the pulse on the ground, which is a function of the range resolution and azimuth resolution... The actual distance on the ground resolved is that between the leading and trailing edge of the pulse. Steeper depression angles and longer pulse lengths lead to a decrease in range resolution. Under contract from the Canadian Space Agency(CSA), the Canadian company, Kinetic Sciences Inc.(KSI), developed a proximity sensor that can provide both image features and range data very near to the surface of the sensor. Because the sensor works without using conventional lenses, it reduces the potential for distorting the image... An important need in many robotics systems is to obtain proximity measurements-which establish how close one object is to another-of the features of an object as it is approached at a close range by the finger tips or robot rippers’. In this situation normal visual sensing tends to be obscured, and can prevent the robot from properly grasping objects or completing tasks. What was required and developed by KSI was a ear-touch proximity sensor that could provide detailed information on the distance and orientation of one object with respect to another for objects between 1 centimetre and 1 millimetre away from the finger tip of the robot. 2, record 37, English, - proximity%20sensor

In a long synthetic aperture (array), SAR focusing involves the removal and compensation of path length differences from the antenna to the target on the ground. 2, record 38, English, - SAR%20focusing
Record number: 38, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The main advantage of a focused synthetic aperture is that it increases its array length over those radar signals that can be processed, and thus increases potential SAR resolution at any range. SAR focusing is a necessary process when the length of a synthetic array is a significant fraction of the range to ground being imaged, as the lines-of-sight(range) from a particular point on the ground to each individual element of the array differ in distance. These range differences, or path length differences, of the radar signals can affect image quality. In a focused SAR image these phase errors can be compensated for by applying a phase correction to the return signal at each synthetic aperture element. Focusing errors may be introduced by unknown or uncorrected platform motion. In an unfocused SAR image, the usable synthetic aperture length is quite limited. 2, record 38, English, - SAR%20focusing

The simplest way is to add a positive supplementary lens or "close-up attachment" in front of the camera lens. This has the effect of shortening the focal length of the camera lens. As focal length decreases, so does the minimum focusing distance.
