Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 DEF
A method, through special circuitry, to modify an NTSC interlaced picture to create an effect similar to a progressively scanned picture. 2, record 1, English, - line%2Ddoubling
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Progressive-scan DVD players add an important additional step to create a better-looking picture - they generate a progressive-scan video signal through a process called de-interlacing (sometimes called "line-doubling"). The de-interlacer’s first task is to look at the interlaced video signal as it leaves the MPEG decoder and determine whether its original source was 24-frame-per-second film or 30-frame-per-second video. The original frame rate determines the type of processing necessary to create an optimized progressive-scan signal. 3, record 1, English, - line%2Ddoubling
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Although "line-doubling" may sometimes be referred to as a synonym for "progressive scanning, "it is actually more generic in that it describes any basic process of image line doubling. 4, record 1, English, - line%2Ddoubling

3, record 1, French, - doublement%20de%20lignes
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
3, record 1, French, - doublement%20de%20lignes
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 2 OBS
3, record 1, French, - doublement%20de%20lignes

Line quadrupling is similar to line doubling except that the number of horizontal scan lines are increased by a factor of four instead of two. Increasing the horizontal scan rate by a factor of four(to 63 kHz), allows most CRT's [cathode ray tubes] to obtain a range of optimum efficiency, maximizing light output with projector light output up to 60% brighter than NTSC, PAL, or SECAM displays. In addition to increased picture brightness, the image becomes smoother and has a "film-like" quality. 2, record 2, English, - line%20quadrupling

1, record 2, French, - quadruplement%20de%20lignes

A star target printed along with the job represents a small section of image edge, such as type or a halftone dot. Changes in the edge shape due to slur, doubling, or "squash" are greatly magnified and can be detected readily. Due to the target's symmetrical design, such changes can be differentiated and assigned to the correct cause. 2, record 3, English, - star%20target

2, record 3, French, - mire%2D%C3%A9toile
