4, record 2, French, - %C3%A9quivalent%20textuel

For applications such as cartography, where it is important to precisely locate the correct position of features such as roads and boundaries, it has been difficult or impossible to evaluate the relative performance of different sensors through the standard specifications of IFOV [Instantaneous Field of View] or spatial resolution. In an effort to overcome this difficulty, a second concept... labeled spatial effective resolution element(SERE), is evolving. Although this concept is not fully developed, it provides an indication of the factors to be taken into account when attempting to correlate different systems. These factors include : surface area on the Earth, or its equivalent on the image plane, the IFOV and the spread function resulting from optical diffraction and aberrations as well as electronic lag or smear. Essentially, the concept of SERE is an attempt to determine the IFOV of the hypothetical, unsampled(ideal) scanning system which would yield performance equivalent to that of any given real sensor system. Whether such an equivalence exists is yet to be determined. 3, record 23, English, - spatial%20effective%20resolution%20element

The intent for multispectral and hyperspectral image data analysis is to rapidly and inexpensively associate a ground cover label to each pixel in the image. Given the multivariate nature of such data, the process of data analysis is one of dividing up the N-dimensional feature space into M exhaustive but non-overlapping regions where M is the number of classes of materials existing in the scene. The process involves defining the M classes of interest in a quantitative fashion, such that each pixel in the scene, which exists as a discrete location in the N-dimensional space, can be uniquely associated with one of the M classes. Frequently, this is done by using a small number of samples in the scene, called design samples or training samples, to define an N-dimensional probability density function for each of the M classes. 4, record 26, English, - n%2Ddimensional%20probability%20density%20function

Filtering is an operation designed to improve image readability and/or to extract certain information from them. The principle of the various filters is to modify the numerical value of each pixel as a function of the neighbouring pixel values. For example, if the value of each pixel is replaced by the average of its value and those of its eight neighbours the image is smoothed, that is to say, the finer details disappear and the image appears fuzzier. In "mobile window filtering" the programme computes for a given pixel the sum of the products of the neighbouring pixel values multiplied by coefficients given in a table of coefficients, then repeats the operation for the next pixel and so on. 3, record 33, English, - filtering

The Positron Microscope was designed and built to be a hybrid instrument capable of performing several types of positrons and electron microscopy. For both electrons and positrons the microscope can be run in one of two modes : magnifying mode in which particles leaving the target are focussed onto a CEMA plate assembly to form a magnified image and scanning mode in which the amplitude of a signal is recorded as a function of the position(and possibly energy) of the incident beam. As an electron microscope the instrument will be able to operate in both magnifying and scanning(SEM) modes. As a positron microscope, however, source considerations will limit its immediate use to magnifying mode, i. e. positron reemission microscopy. 2, record 36, English, - positron%20microscope

Although real motion video is the holy grail of multimedia, it still is impractical using today's technology. The current method for working with video is by capturing and converting the analog signal from a video source and either manipulating the image's data(which is written to video tape) or compressing the data using compression techniques(either software-only compression or a combination of hardware and software compression). To display or capture a single screen of an NTSC signal, you must have a video frame grabber. These are lowest on the rungs of the video ladder, in that they have less capability than boards that capture streaming video. These cards enable you to grab a single frame of video from a Laser Disk or a VCR. Video frame grabbers come in two varieties : single-frame capture and real-time capture. Single-frame capture boards enable you to freeze a selected frame and record it to your hard disk. In this function, single-frame boards are similar to scanners-they provide a means of capturing an image and saving it for use in a multimedia title.... Real-time frame grabbers capture full-motion video at a rate between 15 and 30 frames-per-second using video compression.... 1, record 40, English, - real%2Dtime%20capture%20frame%20grabber

In this function, single-frame boards are similar to scanners-they provide a means of capturing an image and saving it for use in a multimedia title. 1, record 41, English, - single%2Dframe%20capture%20frame%20grabber
