IMAGE ILLUMINATION [16 records]

Record 1 2026-03-20

English

Subject field(s)
  • Medical Instruments and Devices
  • Diagnostic Procedures (Medicine)
  • The Eye
CONT

Genesis of the scanning laser ophthalmoscope.... In the scanning device, the illumination is incident on a small spot of the fundus for a short time period, the illumination beam is displaced to the adjacent small spot, and this continues until the field of view of the fundus is covered. Simultaneously, with the spot of illumination, the scattered light is detected; the accumulation of all of the light from all of the illuminated spots forms the image of the fundus as seen on the display of the scanning laser ophthalmoscope.

CONT

Scanning laser ophthalmoscopes produce high-contrast images even through narrow pupils. Using various color lasers, this method can [allow visualization of] particular structures of the retina noninvasively, i.e., without injection of a contrast agent. These structures include nerve fibers, drusen, nevi, and autofluorescent material.

DEF

An instrument designed to visualize the interior of the eye, with the instrument at arm’s length from the subject’s eye and the observer viewing an inverted image through a convex lens located between the instrument and the subject’s eye.

CONT

Indirect ophthalmoscope. It has a separate power supply, a separate illumination, separate focussing and magnifying system [than the direct ophthalmoscope. ] The illumination system is worn on the forehead of the examiner. The magnifier also known as condenser is held in the right hand of the examiner.... The indirect ophthalmoscope gives a real, inverted and magnified image of the fundus. The image is formed in front of the eye of the patient. The magnification depends upon the power of the magnifier. The stronger is the magnifier(condenser), the less is the magnification.

CONT

Oftalmoscopio indirecto.

This paper investigates the use of fish-eye optics as an alternative to the conventional super wide-angle lens for vision metrology. The fish-eye design, whilst still retro-focus in construction, rejects the design constraints of rectilinear imaging in exchange for more even illumination across the image format and the expectation of reduced lens aberration effects.

Chaque objectif est une optique fish-eye spéciale permettant une vue hémisphérique sur 185°.

OBS

Objectif [...] fish-eye: Il donne une image circulaire inscrite dans le format 24x36. DEF

Description of the geometric orientation in the horizontal plane of an object in the scene with respect to the illuminating wavefront.

CONT

The aspect angle... can have a significant influence on the appearance of radar imagery, especially when features in the scene have an organized linear structure, such as agricultural crops or geological structures. When a radar's illumination is oriented perpendicular to geologic features such as faults, lineaments and outcrops, [there is] increased contrast and shadowing of the features in the image results. This is a favourable aspect angle for the image interpreter, as terrain is enhanced. In agricultural applications, fields imaged from different aspect angles may result in different tones on the image because of row or planting direction. Aspect angle can cause imaging geometry to be either enhanced or suppressed.

DEF

The angle defined by the incident radar beam and the vertical (normal) to the intercepting surface.

CONT

The incidence angle is commonly used to describe the angular relationship between the radar beam and the ground, surface layer or a target. A change of the radar illumination angle often affects the radar backscattering behaviour of a surface or target. The incidence angle changes across the radar image swath; it increases from near range to far range. In the case of satellite radar imagery, the change of incidence angle for flat terrain across the imaging swath tends to be rather small, usually on the order of several degrees. In the case of an inclined surface(slope), the local incidence angle is defined as the angle between the incident radar beam and a line that is normal to that surface. The local incidence angle determining, in part, the brightness, or image tone, for each picture element(pixel) and slope facet, is a key element in the prominent rendition of terrain features in radar imagery.

Preprocessing is an important and diverse set of image preparation programs that act to offset problems with the band data and recalculate DN [Digital Number] values that minimize these problems. Among the programs that optimize these values are atmospheric correction(affecting the DNs of surface materials because of radiance from the atmosphere itself, involving attenuation and scattering) ;Sun illumination geometry; surface-induced geometric distortions; spacecraft velocity and attitude variations(roll, pitch, and yaw) ;effects of Earth rotation, elevation, curvature(including skew effects), abnormalities of instrument performance(irregularities of detector response and scan mode such as variations in mirror oscillations) ;loss of specific scan lines(requires destriping), and others. Once performed on the raw data, these adjustments require appropriate radiometric and geometric corrections.

In X-ray topography, a crystal is illuminated using a highly parallel monochromatic X-ray beam and the diffraction pattern is recorded using fine-grain film placed very close to the crystal. Under these illumination conditions, the diffraction from different points in the crystal is spatially resolved at the film, and the diffraction spots provide images of the crystal. Image contrast results from variations in the diffracted intensity due to variations in lattice orientation and spacing associated with crystal defects and strains. X-ray topography probes bulk crystal perfection with a spatial resolution of a few micrometers.

CONT

A real-time digital video-image-processing system contributes to the automation of weld-seam tracking. The tracking system makes no contact with the seam. A small television camera views the seam just ahead of the point currently being welded. The welding arc provides the illumination. Periodically, a frame grabber digitizes the video image and stores it in a computer memory as gray-scale values. The seam is located by analyzing Hough-transform arrays of derivatives of digitally-filtered image data. The information on the location and orientation of the seam is used as feedback by a welding robot to correct deviations of the electrode from the seam as welding continues.
