IMAGE INTERFERENCE [12 records]

Record 1 2023-12-14

English

Subject field(s)

  • Photography
CONT

If a plane-wave reference is used for recording and for reconstruction, then the reconstructed image will coincide with the magnified image of the object in amplitude, although the phase will contain the curvature due to the imaging lens. Alternatively, holographic interference of the object and the plane-wave reference can be formed first and its magnified image projected near the hologram plane...

CONT

A photograph, as a two-dimensional recording of an image formed by a lens, can be blurred from the start; the sharpness of the image is not affected by the light source used to illuminate it. The situation, however, is completely reversed for an optical hologram, which is a recording of a stationary quantum interference pattern, not an image.

CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Radar, Radio Guidance and Goniometry
  • Spacecraft
  • Remote Sensing
DEF

... any unwanted disturbance in image data that is due to limitations in the sensing, signal digitization or data recording process.

OBS

The different sources of this noise could be due to periodic drift or malfunction of the detector, or due to electronic interference among sensor components, or due to problem in the transmission and recording process. The noise, if present in any part of the image can either degrade or totally mask the true radiometric information contained by the digital image. Hence, noise removal is very essential before any preprocessing or analysis of the image could be done.

OBS

image noise: term officially approved by the RADARSAT-2 Official Terminology Group (RTAG).

CONT

DEF

A filter designed to eliminate speckle in an image.

OBS

speckle : The noise that is created by constructive and destructive interference between the backscattered energy from different portions of the ground surface included in the same pixel of the image the SAR image appears to be covered by randomly scattered bright and dark spots.

OBS

despeckling filter: term officially approved by the RADARSAT-2 Terminology Approval Group (RTAG).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Télédétection
DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Remote Sensing
DEF

A exraneous signal, noise or any other element that disturbs proper reception of the desired signal.

CONT

The signal data in the Kobe image was corrupted by a ground-based radar operating in the same frequency band as the JERS-1 sensor. This radar interference caused the streaks of noise that cover the image of the land mass. Other problems that arose in some of the data were the appearance of "ghost images" in the scenes and poor matching between the images.

DEF
