There are two primary methods of plating copper PCBs [printed circuit boards], panel plating and pattern plating. The panel plating method plates a uniform copper thickness across the entire panel surface before the circuit image is applied, which eliminates most copper plating distribution issues. The disadvantage is that because it adds copper thickness to the surface base layer, it makes maintaining fine line definition and consistency difficult. 3, record 2, English, - panel%20plating

SIAM is a technology that defies the current laws of imaging. It permits scientists to view images much smaller than the wavelength of light and approaching the atomic level, an achievement that has long been considered impossible according to the basic principles of classical optics. SIAM works by shining light through a thin sample onto an ultra-sharp, vibrating tip on the other side. The light scattering from the tip gets altered as the tip approaches within a nanometer from the sample surface, as it vibrates, due to the optical interaction with the local properties of the sample. An image is built up by recording the scattered light as the probe is scanned line by line. The scientists recorded the variations in the scattered light using a very sensitive device--an optical interferometer--which is capable of measuring modulations in light level corresponding to single photons. As the tip moved across the surface, these variations were mapped by a computer into a picture of the surface, showing features such as oil droplets and steps on mica that were only a few atoms in size. 3, record 8, English, - scanning%20interferometric%20apertureless%20microscope

1, record 8, French, - SIAM

The angle defined by the incident radar beam and the vertical (normal) to the intercepting surface. 3, record 21, English, - incidence%20angle
Record number: 21, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The incidence angle is commonly used to describe the angular relationship between the radar beam and the ground, surface layer or a target. A change of the radar illumination angle often affects the radar backscattering behaviour of a surface or target. The incidence angle changes across the radar image swath; it increases from near range to far range. In the case of satellite radar imagery, the change of incidence angle for flat terrain across the imaging swath tends to be rather small, usually on the order of several degrees. In the case of an inclined surface(slope), the local incidence angle is defined as the angle between the incident radar beam and a line that is normal to that surface. The local incidence angle determining, in part, the brightness, or image tone, for each picture element(pixel) and slope facet, is a key element in the prominent rendition of terrain features in radar imagery. 3, record 21, English, - incidence%20angle

The original benday process ... consists in applying inked patterns of different designs to an image carrier, such as a lithographic plate or photoengraving metal ... In our time the original benday process is but rarely used. Its name, though, has not only survived but has even become a generic term for a variety of tint laying techniques ... Very often [bendaying] has become part of art-and-copy preparation. Shading or tinting patterns are manufactured by several companies for this purpose. They can be used by commercial artists to provide certain tonal effects of a limited range. 2, record 26, English, - Benday%20process

Depending on the spatial arrangement of the detectors, the relative calibration error may be constant in one spatial direction. For example, a linear array of detectors may cause relative errors across the image, but since the rest of the image is formed by the motion of the sensor platform, the relative error is constant down the columns of the image. This may cause a vertical striping effect. Or, for a line scanning detector array, the striping may be horizontal as was found in early Landsat MSS sensors. Thus, in implementing the calibration error model, the type and arrangement of detectors must be considered. 2, record 27, English, - striping%20effect

3, record 27, French, - effet%20pyjama

Progressive-scan DVD players add an important additional step to create a better-looking picture - they generate a progressive-scan video signal through a process called de-interlacing (sometimes called "line-doubling"). The de-interlacer’s first task is to look at the interlaced video signal as it leaves the MPEG decoder and determine whether its original source was 24-frame-per-second film or 30-frame-per-second video. The original frame rate determines the type of processing necessary to create an optimized progressive-scan signal. 3, record 36, English, - line%2Ddoubling

Line quadrupling is similar to line doubling except that the number of horizontal scan lines are increased by a factor of four instead of two. Increasing the horizontal scan rate by a factor of four(to 63 kHz), allows most CRT's [cathode ray tubes] to obtain a range of optimum efficiency, maximizing light output with projector light output up to 60% brighter than NTSC, PAL, or SECAM displays. In addition to increased picture brightness, the image becomes smoother and has a "film-like" quality. 2, record 37, English, - line%20quadrupling

To target a specific area on the Earth disk, the scanning thresholds can be set so that a reduced number of forward scan lines are included in each scan cycle. Since these reduced scans can be completed in less time than a full Earth disk scan, reduced scans can provide imagery with a higher temporal resolution than that of the normal half-hourly full Earth disk scans. This mode of scanning is often referred to as reduced scanning or rapid scanning. It should be noted that in rapid scan imaging mode the spin rate, the stepping rate, the number of pixels per line of image data and the resolution of the image data are identical to that for normal full Earth disk scans. 2, record 42, English, - scan%20imaging

The Hénon attractor grows on the computer screen from a single point into a graceful boomerang shape. The image is produced by iterating a pair of simple functions, one of them having a nonlinear term, applied initially to some point in the plane specified by particular x-and y-coordinates. With each iteration, the attractor as a whole is stretched and folded, in much the same way that a baker kneads bread dough. Points that are initially close together get stretched apart, but are eventually folded back close together. All that's missing is the yeast. There is much that is strange about the Hémon attractor. For one thing, it appears to be the same regardless of the iteration's starting point. It also seems to retain complex detail at all levels : magnify any "line" and it is seen to separate into several parallel lines, each of which also separates under further magnification. 2, record 52, English, - H%C3%A9non%20attractor
