The physics of radar wave scattering from the ocean surface is generally known as related to radar scatterometry. The difference between "Path Image" and "Path Image Plus" processing lies in the procedure used to calibrate the data. "Path Image Plus" uses a smaller pixel spacing to retain full RADARSAT beam mode resolution which will enhance your ability to measure point targets. Preprocessing is an important and diverse set of image preparation programs that act to offset problems with the band data and recalculate DN [Digital Number] values that minimize these problems. Among the programs that optimize these values are atmospheric correction(affecting the DNs of surface materials because of radiance from the atmosphere itself, involving attenuation and scattering) ;Sun illumination geometry; surface-induced geometric distortions; spacecraft velocity and attitude variations(roll, pitch, and yaw) ;effects of Earth rotation, elevation, curvature(including skew effects), abnormalities of instrument performance(irregularities of detector response and scan mode such as variations in mirror oscillations) ;loss of specific scan lines(requires destriping), and others. Once performed on the raw data, these adjustments require appropriate radiometric and geometric corrections. 2, record 15, English, - preprocessing

RADARSAT ScanSAR Beam Modes : A ScanSAR beam mode is composed of either two, three, or four single beams. The sequence of beams is organized so that the data is collected from a larger area, than what can be collected using a single beam. The ability to "steer" the radar beam using different incidence angles increases the frequency of repeat coverage. For the ScanSAR beam modes, the radar backscatter decrease resulting from incidence angle differences within the image range should be considered before interpreting the image brightness of a specific target. Incidence angle corrections should be applied on the data before making a direct comparison of image brightness values from different Standard beam mode images. 2, record 22, English, - ScanSAR%20beam%20mode

Envisat's ASAR [Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar] instrument is the first permanent spaceborne radar to incorporate dual-polarisation capabilities-the instrument can transmit and receive signals in either horizontal or vertical polarisation. This Alternating Polarisation(AP) mode can improve the capability of a SAR instrument to classify different types of terrain. Because the reflective properties of a surface are dependant on the polarisation of the incoming radar signal, the use of more than one type of polarisation provides valuable extra information. The ASAR AP mode provides two simultaneous images(or channels) of the same scene taken with different radar polarisation options. Since the radar can transmit and receive in both the horizontal(H) and vertical(V) polarisations, researchers can create image pairs, with possible combinations, HH&VV... HH&HV and VV&VH. A cross-polarisation option employs a channel in which the polarisation signal transmitted by the spacecraft is received on a different polarisation, i. e. transmitted using a horizontal polarisation and received on the vertical for an HV combination, or the reverse for a VH combination. 3, record 23, English, - advanced%20synthetic%20aperture%20radar

Linear contrast enhancement... linearly expands the original digital values of the remotely sensed data into a new distribution. By expanding the original input values of the image, the total range of sensitivity of the display device can be utilized. Linear contrast enhancement also makes subtle variations within the data more obvious. These types of enhancements are best applied to remotely sensed images with Gaussian or near-Gaussian histograms, meaning, all the brightness values fall within a narrow range of the histogram and only one mode is apparent. There are three methods of linear contrast enhancement : Minimum-Maximam Linear Contrast Stretch [;] Percentage Linear Contrast Stretch [and] Piecewise Linear Contrast Stretch. 2, record 24, English, - linear%20contrast%20enhancement

To target a specific area on the Earth disk, the scanning thresholds can be set so that a reduced number of forward scan lines are included in each scan cycle. Since these reduced scans can be completed in less time than a full Earth disk scan, reduced scans can provide imagery with a higher temporal resolution than that of the normal half-hourly full Earth disk scans. This mode of scanning is often referred to as reduced scanning or rapid scanning. It should be noted that in rapid scan imaging mode the spin rate, the stepping rate, the number of pixels per line of image data and the resolution of the image data are identical to that for normal full Earth disk scans. 2, record 33, English, - scan%20imaging

The Positron Microscope was designed and built to be a hybrid instrument capable of performing several types of positrons and electron microscopy. For both electrons and positrons the microscope can be run in one of two modes : magnifying mode in which particles leaving the target are focussed onto a CEMA plate assembly to form a magnified image and scanning mode in which the amplitude of a signal is recorded as a function of the position(and possibly energy) of the incident beam. As an electron microscope the instrument will be able to operate in both magnifying and scanning(SEM) modes. As a positron microscope, however, source considerations will limit its immediate use to magnifying mode, i. e. positron reemission microscopy. 2, record 37, English, - positron%20microscope
