IMAGE POWDER [8 records]

Record 1 2019-07-19

English

Subject field(s)
  • Reprography
  • Electrostatics
DEF

A process for copying graphic matter by the action of light on an electrically charged photoconductive insulating surface in which the latent image is developed with a resinous powder(such as toner).

CONT

Xerography.... a process that first places an electrostatic charge on a plate [or drum]. An image is then projected onto the plate [or drum], causing the charge to dissipate in the illuminated areas, thus allowing an applied coating of resinous powder to adhere only to the uncharged(dark) areas. The powder is then transferred to paper and is fixed by heat.

OBS

This process is used in photocopiers and laser printers.

  • Reprographie
  • Électrostatique
DEF

CONT

Electrostatic copying.... the charged image is formed on the surface of a metal drum coated with selenium. The image is made visible by the application of a plastic powder, called toner, that has been given the opposite electrical charge and is thus attracted to the charged image on the drum. The toner image is then transferred to plain, uncoated paper by the attraction of another opposite charge placed behind the paper. The toner is fused onto the paper by heat to produce a permanent image.

CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Radiography (Medicine)
OBS

xeroradiography : A method of roentgenography using, instead of film, a metal plate coated with a semiconductor, such as selenium. The image is obtained by dusting the plate with a dark powder, the particles of the powder being fixed in place by the electrical charges resulting from exposure of the plate to X rays.

French

Subject field(s)
  • Non-impact Printing
DEF

A printing process using static electricity to deposit dry powder ink or, less frequently, liquid ink, on a sensitized surface in order to create an image.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Impression sans impact
DEF

  • Photoengraving
DEF

Reproduction process involving the application of a positive electrostatic charge into the image of a document and subsequent treatment with negatively charged powder which adheres to the positive image area.

OBS

[This] process utilizes the fact that in certain substances an electrostatic charge will be dissipated by light where it strikes, but will remain in unlit areas.

DEF

OBS

DEF

A toner, either dry powder or liquid, used to develop electrostatic images, as in a photocopying machine. The charge of the pigmented particles is opposite to that of the image; the particles are thus attracted to and adhere to the image-bearing surface.

OBS

Electrostatic inks are not inks in the truest sense, nor should they be confused with the organic pigment in ordinary ink.

DEF
