A molecule in a given configuration or conformation is termed chiral when it is not identical with its mirror image. All asymmetric molecules are chiral; however, not all chiral molecules are asymmetric, since some molecules having axes of rotation are chiral. A telescope mounting in which one axis (the polar axis) is parallel to the earth’s axis, while the second axis (the declination axis) is at right angles to it.

... the mounting of the telescope... must be massive, in order to minimize mechanical vibration that would blur the image, especially at high magnification or during long-exposure photography. At the same time, motion of the telescope must be precise and smooth. A form of x-ray which creates cross-sectional images. X-ray beams pass through the body at different angles and are then recorded by detectors and channeled into a computer which produces cross-sectional views at different planes.

As the x-ray tube and detector make this 360° rotation, the detector takes numerous snapshots(called profiles) of the attenuated x-ray beam. Typically, in one 360° lap, about 1, 000 profiles are sampled. Each profile is subdivided spatially(divided into partitions) by the detectors and fed into about 700 individual channels. Each profile is then backwards reconstructed(or "back projected") by a dedicated computer into a two-dimensional image of the "slice" that was scanned.

An improvement over the first "panoramic" system involved eliminating the rotation of the photographic apparatus, and instead disposing the object to be photographed in front of the objective lens and rotating the object itself. As in a "panoramic" system, the image of the object is recorded on a photographic film which is moved linearly at the same speed as the speed of rotation of the object. Such a system is known as a "periphotographic system".

A technique used in image restoration, enhancement or coding [that is] a separable orthogonal transform or an expansion of the matrix in rank-1 matrices.

This paper presents a simple and effective method for matching two uncalibrated images. Corner points are firstly extracted as interest points in the two images. Each interest point is assigned one dominant orientation. The initial set of point matches is then obtained by singular value decomposition of a correspondence strength matrix. A new expression of this matrix is introduced to handle more complicated imaging conditions. Each element of this matrix is the similarity measure between two interest points. The new similarity measure is invariant to image rotation by taking into account the dominant orientation of the two interest points. The epipolar geometry constraint is finally imposed to reject the false matches. Experimental results on real images show this approach to be effective for general image matching.

Preprocessing is an important and diverse set of image preparation programs that act to offset problems with the band data and recalculate DN [Digital Number] values that minimize these problems. Among the programs that optimize these values are atmospheric correction(affecting the DNs of surface materials because of radiance from the atmosphere itself, involving attenuation and scattering) ;Sun illumination geometry; surface-induced geometric distortions; spacecraft velocity and attitude variations(roll, pitch, and yaw) ;effects of Earth rotation, elevation, curvature(including skew effects), abnormalities of instrument performance(irregularities of detector response and scan mode such as variations in mirror oscillations) ;loss of specific scan lines(requires destriping), and others. Once performed on the raw data, these adjustments require appropriate radiometric and geometric corrections.
