According to the company [Hughes Aircraft], the terminal homing seeker system could also be used on larger missiles. The new sensor is called a mosaic infra-red focal-plane array because of its large number of sensor elements and its location at the focal plane of the optical system where the thermal image is focused. Unlike conventional IR seekers, which mechanically scan a scene through an arrangement of oscillating or rotating mirrors, the focal plane array electronically observes the entire scene in its view all the time. Thus it is referred to as a 'staring’ array, as opposed to the 'scanning’ of the mechanical technique. 1, record 8, English, - mosaic%20infra%2Dred%20focal%2Dplane%20array

8, record 13, French, - radar%20%C3%A0%20synth%C3%A8se%20d%27ouverture

For applications such as cartography, where it is important to precisely locate the correct position of features such as roads and boundaries, it has been difficult or impossible to evaluate the relative performance of different sensors through the standard specifications of IFOV [Instantaneous Field of View] or spatial resolution. In an effort to overcome this difficulty, a second concept... labeled spatial effective resolution element(SERE), is evolving. Although this concept is not fully developed, it provides an indication of the factors to be taken into account when attempting to correlate different systems. These factors include : surface area on the Earth, or its equivalent on the image plane, the IFOV and the spread function resulting from optical diffraction and aberrations as well as electronic lag or smear. Essentially, the concept of SERE is an attempt to determine the IFOV of the hypothetical, unsampled(ideal) scanning system which would yield performance equivalent to that of any given real sensor system. Whether such an equivalence exists is yet to be determined. 3, record 17, English, - spatial%20effective%20resolution%20element

Record number: 21, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Overview of resampling methods. From the perspective of space, a satellite camera or sensor takes images that provide unique Earth information at scales ranging from very small to very large. To better understand an image, its shape, scale and perspective often are changed by rectification, orthorectification or map projection to relate it to real world coordinates. During that process, however, gaps between pixels may form, requiring that images be resampled to fill in those missing pixels. There are basically 3 methods of resampling : nearest neighbor, bilinear interpolation and cubic convolution. 4, record 21, English, - resampling

One type of scanner is called a whiskbroom scanner also referred to as across-track scanners. It uses rotating mirrors to scan the landscape below from side to side perpendicular to the direction of the sensor platform, like a whiskbroom. The width of the sweep is referred to as the sensor swath. The rotating mirrors redirect the reflected light to a point where a single or just a few sensor detectors are grouped together. Whiskbroom scanners with their moving mirrors tend to be large and complex to build. The moving mirrors create spatial distortions that must be corrected with preprocessing by the data provider before image data is delivered to the user. An advantage of whiskbroom scanners is that they have fewer sensor detectors to keep calibrated as compared to other types of sensors. 5, record 22, English, - across%2Dtrack%20scanner

Traditional methods for acquiring topographic data typically rely on aerial photogrammetry, where measurement of the terrain surface below forest canopy is difficult and error prone. The recent emergence of airborne P-band interferometric synthetic aperture radar (IFSAR), a high -resolution, microwave remote sensing technology, has the potential to provide significantly more accurate terrain models in forested areas. Low-frequency, P-band radar energy physically penetrates through the vegetation canopy and reflects from the underlying terrain surface, allowing for accurate measurement of the terrain surface elevation even in areas with dense forest cover. 3, record 30, English, - interferometric%20synthetic%20aperture%20radar

4, record 31, French, - capteur%20CMOS

Depending on the spatial arrangement of the detectors, the relative calibration error may be constant in one spatial direction. For example, a linear array of detectors may cause relative errors across the image, but since the rest of the image is formed by the motion of the sensor platform, the relative error is constant down the columns of the image. This may cause a vertical striping effect. Or, for a line scanning detector array, the striping may be horizontal as was found in early Landsat MSS sensors. Thus, in implementing the calibration error model, the type and arrangement of detectors must be considered. 2, record 33, English, - striping%20effect

3, record 33, French, - effet%20pyjama

LANTIRN consists of a navigation pod and a targeting pod integrated and mounted externally beneath the aircraft. The AN/AAQ-13 navigation pod provides high-speed penetration and precision attack on tactical targets at night and in adverse weather. The naviation pod also contains a terrain-following radar and a fixed infrared sensor, which provides a visual cue and input to the aircraft's flight control system, enabling it to maintain a preselected altitude above the terrain and avoid obstacles. This sensor displays an infrared image of the terrain in front of the aircraft, to the pilot, on a head-up display. Under contract from the Canadian Space Agency(CSA), the Canadian company, Kinetic Sciences Inc.(KSI), developed a proximity sensor that can provide both image features and range data very near to the surface of the sensor. Because the sensor works without using conventional lenses, it reduces the potential for distorting the image... An important need in many robotics systems is to obtain proximity measurements-which establish how close one object is to another-of the features of an object as it is approached at a close range by the finger tips or robot rippers’. In this situation normal visual sensing tends to be obscured, and can prevent the robot from properly grasping objects or completing tasks. What was required and developed by KSI was a ear-touch proximity sensor that could provide detailed information on the distance and orientation of one object with respect to another for objects between 1 centimetre and 1 millimetre away from the finger tip of the robot. 2, record 40, English, - proximity%20sensor

A rapidly emerging technology is challenging the vidicon camera's supremacy in image capture. As mentioned, CCD cameras use a solid state image-sensing element called a charge-coupled device.... The CCD camera's silicon array sensors can align each pixel sensor much more accurately than can conventional vidicon image sensors. This positional accuracy reduces geometric distortion. 5, record 49, English, - CCD%20camera

1, record 57, French, - syst%C3%A8me%20d%27affichage%20%C3%A9lectronique%20%C3%A0%20grossissement%20optique
