... fundus autofluorescence(FAF) imaging, which detects autofluorescent material, i. e., lipofuscin, in the retinal pigment epithelium(RPE). Fluorophores detectable with this imaging method may also occur anterior or posterior to the RPE cell monolayer. Excessive lipofuscin accumulation in the RPE is a common downstream pathogenic pathway in various monogenetic and complex retinal diseases including age-related macular degeneration. The accumulated lipofuscin produces a signal that is captured in the FAF image allowing in vivo mapping of metabolic changes in the RPE. 6, record 1, English, - fundus%20autofluorescence%20imaging

Optical coherence tomography(OCT) is a non-contact imaging technique which generates cross-sectional images of tissue with high resolution. Therefore it is especially valuable in organs, where traditional microscopic tissue diagnosis by means of biopsy is not available—such as the human eye. Since OCT is completely noninvasive, it provides in vivo images without impacting the tissue that is imaged. Fast scanning rates and quick signal processing allows for image visualization in real time and at video rate.... the resolution of OCT is much higher than that of other medical imaging methods like ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging(MRI). 3, record 2, English, - optical%20coherence%20tomography

Optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA) is a noninvasive technique that can detect blood flow signal in retinal and choroidal vessels using motion contrast. It compares the decorrelation signal(differences in the backscattered OCT [optical coherence tomography] signal intensity) between sequential OCT B-scans taken at the same cross-section; thus, yielding maps of vascular flow.... Numerous studies described how to automatically detect and classify retinal disorders(e. g., diabetic retinopathy [DR]). However, most of them relied on fundus images rather than on OCT images or OCT angiograms. Recent development in OCTA induced attempts to use advanced image processing in order to extract quantitative information that characterizes the vascular network in the retina from the angiograms. 3, record 4, English, - optical%20coherence%20tomography%20angiogram

The acquisition time course is often over several minutes for DCE [dynamic contrast enhancement], while DSC [dynamic susceptibility-weighted contrast] is about 60 seconds in length. This time allows for measurement of the wash-in and wash-out of the contrast material in the EES [extracellular extravascular space]. There are several methods for image interpretation. The simplest method is to examine the signal intensity curves over time for a region of interest. The rate or slope of the wash-in and wash-out curve for multiple regions of interest can be visually assessed. 2, record 5, English, - wash%2Dout%20curve

synthetic aperture radar; SAR :[A] synthetic aperture radar(SAR) is a side-looking imaging radar usually operating on either an aircraft or a spacecraft. The radar transmits a series of short, coherent pulses to the ground producing a footprint whose size is inversely proportional to the antenna size, its aperture. Because the antenna size is generally small, the footprint is large and any particular target is illuminated by several hundred radar pulses. Intensive signal processing involving the detection of small Doppler shifts in the reflected signals from targets to the moving radar produces a high resolution image that is equivalent to one that would have been collected by a radar with a much larger aperture. 4, record 9, English, - C%2Dband%20synthetic%20aperture%20radar

The image processing consisted in generating intensity images and one coherence image. To facilitate their analysis and interpretation, a coloured composition has been created with the results. This composition is obtained by adding the coherence image in red, the average of both images phase intensities in green and the difference between these phase intensities in blue. As such, a high coherence level(value close to 1) appears in red and indicates a very good phase correlation between the two images, a consequence of the various mechanisms of radar signal scattering and of the lack of change which could affect the target. On the contrary, a weak coherence level(value tending to 0) appears in black and indicates a movement in these zones during the 24 hours interval which separated the two image shots. Lastly, the white spots correspond to areas with a strong radar signal backscattering i. e. with zones of hills or vegetation. 3, record 12, English, - colour%20composition

Scanning transmission electron microscopy(STEM) combines the principles of transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy and can be performed on either type of instrument. Like TEM [transmission electron microscopy], STEM requires very thin samples and looks primarily at beam electrons transmitted by the sample. One of its principal advantages over TEM is in enabling the use of other signals that cannot be spatially correlated in TEM, including secondary electrons, scattered beam electrons, characteristic X-rays, and electron energy loss. Like SEM [scanning electron microscopy], the STEM technique scans a very finely focused beam of electrons across the sample in a raster pattern. Interactions between the beam electrons and sample atoms generate a serial signal stream, which is correlated with beam position to build a virtual image in which the signal level at any location in the sample is represented by the gray level at the corresponding location in the image. Its primary advantage over conventional SEM imaging is the improvement in spatial resolution. 3, record 15, English, - scanning%20transmission%20electron%20microscopy

New methods of acoustic imaging are presented that provide images with reduced reverberation noise and images of nonlinear scattering and propagation parameters of the object, and estimation methods of corrections for wave front aberrations produced by spatial variations in the acoustic propagation velocity. The methods find use in a variety of applications such as acoustic imaging of geological structures, SONAR imaging of sub-sea objects, and medical ultrasound imaging. The methods are based on processing of the received signal from transmitted dual frequency band acoustic pulse complexes with overlapping high and low frequency pulses. The high frequency pulse is used for the image reconstruction and the low frequency pulse is used to manipulate the nonlinear scattering and/or propagation properties of the high frequency pulse. 3, record 18, English, - acoustic%20imaging

1, record 29, French, - signal%20radar%20brut

Each detector element projects an "instantaneous field of view(IFOV) "on the ground. The signal recorded by a detector element is proportional to the total radiation collected within its IFOV. Record number: 37, Textual support number: 1 OBS
4, record 37, French, - surbalayage

Envisat's ASAR [Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar] instrument is the first permanent spaceborne radar to incorporate dual-polarisation capabilities-the instrument can transmit and receive signals in either horizontal or vertical polarisation. This Alternating Polarisation(AP) mode can improve the capability of a SAR instrument to classify different types of terrain. Because the reflective properties of a surface are dependant on the polarisation of the incoming radar signal, the use of more than one type of polarisation provides valuable extra information. The ASAR AP mode provides two simultaneous images(or channels) of the same scene taken with different radar polarisation options. Since the radar can transmit and receive in both the horizontal(H) and vertical(V) polarisations, researchers can create image pairs, with possible combinations, HH&VV... HH&HV and VV&VH. A cross-polarisation option employs a channel in which the polarisation signal transmitted by the spacecraft is received on a different polarisation, i. e. transmitted using a horizontal polarisation and received on the vertical for an HV combination, or the reverse for a VH combination. 3, record 39, English, - advanced%20synthetic%20aperture%20radar

Theoretical studies have shown the potential scientific value of multi-spacecraft radio tomographic imaging of the magnetosphere. The <10 RE WIND perigee passes during August 2000 afforded a unique opportunity to test and verify the capabilities of radio tomography by measuring interspacecraft electromagnetic wave propagation parameters using the Radio Plasma Imager(RPI) on IMAGE as the transmitter and the WAVES instrument on WIND as the receiver.... In a long synthetic aperture (array), SAR focusing involves the removal and compensation of path length differences from the antenna to the target on the ground. 2, record 49, English, - SAR%20focusing
Record number: 49, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The main advantage of a focused synthetic aperture is that it increases its array length over those radar signals that can be processed, and thus increases potential SAR resolution at any range. SAR focusing is a necessary process when the length of a synthetic array is a significant fraction of the range to ground being imaged, as the lines-of-sight(range) from a particular point on the ground to each individual element of the array differ in distance. These range differences, or path length differences, of the radar signals can affect image quality. In a focused SAR image these phase errors can be compensated for by applying a phase correction to the return signal at each synthetic aperture element. Focusing errors may be introduced by unknown or uncorrected platform motion. In an unfocused SAR image, the usable synthetic aperture length is quite limited. 2, record 49, English, - SAR%20focusing

The Positron Microscope was designed and built to be a hybrid instrument capable of performing several types of positrons and electron microscopy. For both electrons and positrons the microscope can be run in one of two modes : magnifying mode in which particles leaving the target are focussed onto a CEMA plate assembly to form a magnified image and scanning mode in which the amplitude of a signal is recorded as a function of the position(and possibly energy) of the incident beam. As an electron microscope the instrument will be able to operate in both magnifying and scanning(SEM) modes. In the case of the high-speed colony picker, the machinery consists of two tables capable of computer-controlled movement positioned underneath a pair of plungers with a rotating carousel wheel in between that is fitted with 24 reusable needles. To operate the system, a Petri dish containing colonies of yeast or bacteria is placed on one table, and a 96-well microtiter plate is placed on the other. Guided by a digital image that shows the location of colonies in the dish, the first table moves a colony directly underneath a plunger which at the same time is being armed with a needle from the carousel. On a signal from a computer, the plunger dips the needle into the colony and immediately retracts it with "picked" cells. The carousel then rotates the needle over to the second plunger and the table bearing the microtiter plate moves until the correct well is directly underneath it. The computer activates the second plunger, dipping the needle into the growth medium where some of the cells will be deposited. After retraction from the growth medium, the needle is rotated by the carousel through a tank filled with sterilizing liquid and made ready for reuse. 2, record 54, English, - colony%20picker

Remote heat sensing techniques evolved from space technology developments related to weather satellites can be used to detect comparative heat energy losses from roofs, walls, windows, and so on. A method called thermography is defined as the conversion of a temperature pattern detected on a surface by contrast into an image called a thermogram... Thermovision is defined as the technique of utilizing the infrared radiation from a surface which varies with the surface temperatures, to produce a thermal picture or thermogram. A camera can scan the area in question and focus the radiation on a sensitive detector which in turn converts it to an electronic signal. 2, record 58, English, - thermovision

Although real motion video is the holy grail of multimedia, it still is impractical using today's technology. The current method for working with video is by capturing and converting the analog signal from a video source and either manipulating the image's data(which is written to video tape) or compressing the data using compression techniques(either software-only compression or a combination of hardware and software compression). To display or capture a single screen of an NTSC signal, you must have a video frame grabber. These are lowest on the rungs of the video ladder, in that they have less capability than boards that capture streaming video. These cards enable you to grab a single frame of video from a Laser Disk or a VCR. Video frame grabbers come in two varieties : single-frame capture and real-time capture. Single-frame capture boards enable you to freeze a selected frame and record it to your hard disk. In this function, single-frame boards are similar to scanners-they provide a means of capturing an image and saving it for use in a multimedia title.... Real-time frame grabbers capture full-motion video at a rate between 15 and 30 frames-per-second using video compression.... 1, record 59, English, - real%2Dtime%20capture%20frame%20grabber
