An important property insofar as drainage through fabrics is concerned is the porosity or size of opening of the fabric. This is most accurately determined by tests common to the area of quantitative metallography. Such devices as "image analyzers, "which rapidly scan the specimen and give, by light reflection, the percentage of void to fiber, are ideal for this use. Most systems also have data storage capabilities which allow for scanning of a relatively large specimen and thereby obtain meaningful statistical data on the mean size of openings and the standard deviation or variance of these openings. 1, record 2, English, - image%20analyzer

synthetic aperture radar; SAR :[A] synthetic aperture radar(SAR) is a side-looking imaging radar usually operating on either an aircraft or a spacecraft. The radar transmits a series of short, coherent pulses to the ground producing a footprint whose size is inversely proportional to the antenna size, its aperture. Because the antenna size is generally small, the footprint is large and any particular target is illuminated by several hundred radar pulses. Intensive signal processing involving the detection of small Doppler shifts in the reflected signals from targets to the moving radar produces a high resolution image that is equivalent to one that would have been collected by a radar with a much larger aperture. 4, record 5, English, - C%2Dband%20synthetic%20aperture%20radar

Confocal microscopy. Unlike "normal" microscopy, only a spot of a minimum size in the specimen is illuminated in confocal microscopy. To enable an image to be formed from this, the specimen must be scanned. The image of the spot is directed through a pinhole stop in an intermediate image plane. As a result, only light from the focal plane can reach the detector(a photomultiplier). All other(out-of-focus) planes are blocked out. This results in an "optical section". The images are stored electronically and displayed on a monitor. A series of optical sections can be recorded by moving a motor a slight distance along the z-axis each time an image has been recorded, after which the next image is then also recorded. Such a z-series permits the electronic reconstruction of the three-dimensional structure using suitable computer programs. The procedure, which is restricted to incident-light techniques, has completely revolutionized fluorescence microscopy in biology in particular. 2, record 12, English, - confocal%20microscopy

SIAM is a technology that defies the current laws of imaging. It permits scientists to view images much smaller than the wavelength of light and approaching the atomic level, an achievement that has long been considered impossible according to the basic principles of classical optics. SIAM works by shining light through a thin sample onto an ultra-sharp, vibrating tip on the other side. The light scattering from the tip gets altered as the tip approaches within a nanometer from the sample surface, as it vibrates, due to the optical interaction with the local properties of the sample. An image is built up by recording the scattered light as the probe is scanned line by line. The scientists recorded the variations in the scattered light using a very sensitive device--an optical interferometer--which is capable of measuring modulations in light level corresponding to single photons. As the tip moved across the surface, these variations were mapped by a computer into a picture of the surface, showing features such as oil droplets and steps on mica that were only a few atoms in size. 3, record 19, English, - scanning%20interferometric%20apertureless%20microscope

1, record 19, French, - SIAM

Regarding material characterization, most work is centered around laboratory testing and adapting the many existing test methods for textiles to construction use tests.... An example [of new techniques] is Rollins work with an image analyzer to characterize fabric as to the size and shape of the openings and details of clogging or blinding of the fabrics. Crack propagation in fabrics is also being studied on a fracture mechanics basis, indicating that many tools common to other areas are being used in fabric problems. 1, record 28, English, - material%20characterization

Interferometric synthetic aperture radar(InSAR) is a promising recent technique for the generation of digital elevation models and/or the measurement of ground surface deformations. In InSAR data processing, the first step is the image co-registration, achieved by using a set of tie points which are the conjugate image points on the master and slave images. Tie points are selected with the aim of finding the conjugate point automatically on the slave image for any given point on the master image, by the process known as image matching. To achieve reliable matching, a set of points within a window is used instead of a single point. The size of the window will affect the reliability of matching. Hitherto there have been no effective methods for the determination of optimum window size for this purpose. In practice, this parameter is determined by experience. 2, record 33, English, - image%20co%2Dregistration

In real aperture radar imaging, the groud resolution is limited by the size of the microwave beam sent out from the antenna. Finer details on the ground can be resolved by using a narrower beam. The beam width is inversely proportional to the size of the antenna, i. e. the longer the antenna, the narrower the beam. 2, record 39, English, - radar%20pulse

2, record 39, French, - impulsion%20radar

The Gamma filter performs gamma map filtering. Gamma filtering is primarily used on radar data to remove high frequency noise(speckle) while preserving high frequency features(edges). The Gamma Map filter was first proposed by Kuan.... Lopes modified the Kuan Map filter by assuming a gamma distributed scene and setting up two thresholds. The gamma filter size ranges from 1 to 11. Different filter sizes will greatly affect the quality of processed images. If the filter is too small, the noise filtering algorithm is not effective. If the filter is too large, subtle details of the image will be lost in the filtering process. A 7x7 filter usually gives the best results.... The GAMMA filter performs spatial filtering on each individual pixel in an image using the grey level values in a square window surrounding each pixel. The dimensions of the filter must be odd, and can be from 3x3 to 11x11 pixels. 2, record 41, English, - gamma%20filter

SPI, or Sediment Profile Imagery, is an innovative and cost efficient method of surveying and/or monitoring lake or marine aquatic environments with a view to establishing the environmental status of these habitats or as part of a site suitability study.... SPI is based on single lens reflex(SLR) camera photography and computer-based image analysis which greatly accelerates the time required to write reports and provide relevant data to the client/legislator in a matter of weeks. SPI technology can readily quantify over 20 physical, chemical and biological parameters including : sediment grain size; prism penetration; surface pelletal layer; sediment surface relief; mud clasts; redox area; redox contrast; current apparent redox boundary; relict redox boundaries; methane gas vesicles; apparent faunal dominants; voids; burrows; surface features(e. g. worm tubes, epifauna, shell) ;dredged material; microbial aggregations; and successional stage. 1, record 53, English, - sediment%20profile%20imagery

The spatial resolution of a RADAR image is controlled by the size of the pulse on the ground, which is a function of the range resolution and azimuth resolution... The actual distance on the ground resolved is that between the leading and trailing edge of the pulse. Steeper depression angles and longer pulse lengths lead to a decrease in range resolution. Longer pulses result in an echo from over a larger area on the ground, and hence objects close together are not resolved. 2, record 56, English, - steeper%20depression%20angle

Executive suites are very common in most U. S. cities and may include an inexpensive marketing package to help you develop a local corporate image. These suites offer economic overhead through pooled secretarial support, office space, photocopying, mail handling and telephone answering services. Telephones are answered with your firm's name and you pay a monthly rental and phone answering fee plus additional charges for specific services used or furniture rented. Costs of these services vary by region and by size of space. You are usually free to move within the building as your space needs change. You will probably find it more economical to open your own office once you have more than five staff on site. 1, record 71, English, - executive%20suite

These compressors allow you to reduce your QuickTime clips’ file size, which can get enormous(the average uncompressed file size of our 30-second test clip was 16 megabytes). Tests for Hydraulic Properties. Porosity or opening size of fabric. 2, record 74, English, - porosity%20test
