A video control operator... controls the video console to regulate transmission of content—everything from test patterns to live and recorded telecasts. Video control operators view the action on set through video monitors and set switches and observe dials on the video console to control contrast, framing, brilliance, color balance, and the fidelity of the transmitted image. They monitor the program to ensure broadcast technical quality, and review the program to determine that the signal functions properly and is ready for transmission on schedule. 1, record 1, English, - video%20control%20operator

3, record 2, French, - nanotube%20de%20carbone%20de%20type%20%C2%ABpeapod%C2%BB

Scanning transmission electron microscopy(STEM) combines the principles of transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy and can be performed on either type of instrument. Like TEM [transmission electron microscopy], STEM requires very thin samples and looks primarily at beam electrons transmitted by the sample. One of its principal advantages over TEM is in enabling the use of other signals that cannot be spatially correlated in TEM, including secondary electrons, scattered beam electrons, characteristic X-rays, and electron energy loss. Like SEM [scanning electron microscopy], the STEM technique scans a very finely focused beam of electrons across the sample in a raster pattern. Interactions between the beam electrons and sample atoms generate a serial signal stream, which is correlated with beam position to build a virtual image in which the signal level at any location in the sample is represented by the gray level at the corresponding location in the image. Its primary advantage over conventional SEM imaging is the improvement in spatial resolution. 3, record 11, English, - scanning%20transmission%20electron%20microscopy

Single Particle Analysis is a group of related computerized image processing techniques used to analyze images from transmission electron microscopy(TEM). These methods were developed to improve and extend the information obtainable from TEM images of particulate samples, typically proteins or other large biological entities such as viruses. Individual images of stained or unstained particles are very noisy, and so hard to interpret. Combining several digitized images of similar particles together gives an image with stronger and more easily interpretable features. An extension of this technique uses single particle methods to build up a three dimensional reconstruction of the particle. 1, record 12, English, - single%20particle%20analysis

The MPEG standard is primarily a bitstream specification, although it also specifies a typical decoding process to assist in interpreting the bitstream specification. This approach supports data interchange, but it does not restrict creativity and innovation in the means for creating or decoding that bitstream. The bitstream architecture is based on a sequence of pictures, each of which contains the data needed to create a single displayable image. Note that the order of transmission of pictures in the data stream may not be the same as the order in which pictures will be displayed-this will be evident shortly. There are four different kinds of pictures, depending on how each picture is to be decoded : I pictures... P pictures... B pictures are interpolated pictures, which are coded by interpolating between a previous and a future I or P picture. This process is sometimes referred to as "bidirectional prediction.

Video compression ratios available from various vendors of full-motion video boards range up to 160 : 1 and perform adequately on standalone multimedia desktop platforms transmitting image data from CD-ROM or videodisk peripherals. However, these compression ratios will not be sufficient for effective transmission of complex videos and renderings that are being produced by engineering designers or even simpler videos in highly interactive multiuser networked environments. The solution, however, is already on the horizon in the form of fractional dimensional compression techniques(fractals) that can reach astonishing compression ratios of 10, 000 : 1. This is possible because fractals, despite their apparent complexity, have a very low information content and can be specified as relatively simple expressions. Fractal compression is obtained via mathematical functions that describe a sequence of transformations of an image and when applied repeatedly, converge on a unique fractal. Fractal compression algorithms can be incorporated in software or VLSI microchips and, if applied to a typical CD-ROM disk, should provide nearly seven hours of full-motion. 2, record 45, English, - fractal%20compression
