Imagine Canada builds on the proud history of two leading voices of Canada's charitable and nonprofit sector : the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy(CCP) and the Coalition of National Voluntary Organizations(NVO). Founded in 1974, NVO was the national advocacy and public policy voice for the voluntary sector. CCP was created in 1981 to support the work of charities, foundations, socially conscious corporations and fundraisers. In 2003, the boards of both organizations proposed an alliance, recognizing a substantial overlap in membership and advocacy objectives. The following year, their members and stakeholders endorsed a vision of a Canada where "strong and vital charities and nonprofit organizations, the private sector and governments work together for social progress and vibrant communities. Imagine Canada poursuit sur la lancée de la glorieuse histoire de deux porte-paroles de premier plan du secteur de la bienfaisance et sans but lucratif du Canada : le Centre canadien de philanthropie (CCP) et le Regroupement des organisations nationales bénévoles (ONB). Fondé en 1974, l'ONB était le porte-parole du secteur bénévole en matière de défense des intérêts et de politiques publiques. Le CCP a été créé en 1981 pour soutenir l'œuvre des organismes de bienfaisance, des fondations, des entreprises animées par leur conscience sociale et des collecteurs de fonds. En 2003, comme un grand nombre de personnes adhèrent au CCP et à l'ONB et que ces deux organismes partagent de nombreux objectifs en matière de défense des intérêts, leurs conseils d'administration ont tiré les conclusions de cette redondance et ont proposé de constituer une alliance.
