The resolution of an optical imaging system – a microscope, telescope, or camera – can be limited by factors such as imperfections in the lenses or misalignment. However, there is a fundamental maximum to the resolution of any optical system which is due to diffraction. An optical system with the ability to produce images with angular resolution as good as the instrument's theoretical limit is said to be diffraction limited. 2, record 2, English, - diffraction%20limited

3, record 2, French, - limit%C3%A9%20par%20la%20diffraction

Ultra-Fine mode, available on RADARSAT-2, will acquire images at a spatial resolution of 3 meters. In this mode, the radar operates with sampling rate, therefore the ground coverage is limited(10 to 20 km) to keep the acquisition within the recording limits. The Ultra-Fine imaging mode will provide the best resolution available commercially with a spaceborne SAR system. This capability will allow the ability to detect more clearly targets that are closely spaced and provide enhanced definition of other targets, thereby reducing ambiguities and increasing confidence in the data. 3, record 5, English, - ultra%2Dfine%20mode

4, record 5, French, - mode%20ultra%2Dfin
